– The painter is the only subject listed on the DAB whose common name is in the exact form "George Romney". The governor is George W. Romney. "Titles of distinct articles may differ only in their detail. Many such differences involve capitalization, separation or non-separation of components, or pluralization", according to WP:PRECISION. If it is valid to disambiguate by capital letter only, disambiguating by middle initial should be no problem. Disambiguation should not be used unless the common name "is ambiguous (can refer to more than one topic covered in Wikipedia)". The only reason this subject currently has the disambiguator "(painter)" is to disambiguate him from the DAB. On Britannica, "George Romney" is the painter and only the painter.   • Oppose. All of the individuals listed on the disambiguation page are known as George Romney, with possible exception of G. Scott Romney. That the title of their wikipedia articles have been disambiguated using middle initials doesn't necessarily mean that they are not known as "George Romney". George W. Romney is the formal, encyclopedic way to write the governor's name, not disambiguation. If we put him in a hat on the painter's article, he'll still be one click away, just like he is now. Since we already decided that the governor is not the primary topic, this proposal doesn't affect his article. So the issue here is whether the DAB or the painter is the more likely desired topic. Since there are only two major referents, this is effectively a WP:TWODABS situation. So either the painter or the governor should get the base name. Then the governor should get the base name. I'm not seeing any evidence that "George W. Romney" is the proper, generally accepted way to write his name any more than "Willard M. Romney" is the generally accepted way to write his son's name (and keep in mind, naming conventions follow generally accepted, that's why there's only a redirect at William Jefferson Clinton and James Earl Carter). I am seeing evidence that the governor/businessman commonly goes by "George Romney" and that he gets 90% of the article traffic between the two pages.   • Very Strong Oppose: For starters, that's not accurate...George W. Romney is commonly known as just "George Romney". For second, George W. Romney gets 33,000 hits/month, this George Romney only gets 2300 hits/month. I cannot allow something that only gets less than 10% of the hits to be the primary topic; and frankly believe this RM should be speedily closed Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 19:41, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. George Romney the automaker/politician was known by that name mostly (3,780 references to that versus 769 to George W. Romney in the New York Times archives). My guess is his article was located at George W. Romney instead of George Romney (some disambig) because no one was sure what a good disambig phrase would be for him.   • Oppose: Agree with the previous posters. Just because the other George Romneys are listed on the disambiguation page with their middle initials, which was presumably done (for all but one of them) solely in order to differentiate them from the painter, does not provided adequate rationale in my mind to remove "(painter)" from this article's title.   • Comment- I'm presuming that 'Georgius' on the painter's grave marker is a Latinized 'George', since the rest is in Latin. While I see no reason not to have an article at George Romney instead of the dab page, GWR is by measurable means the better option, although I see no proponent of moving it instead.
