Prodgers vis Prodger[edit]

This is moved from the article page:

Prodger vs Prodgers question? Not at all. It is clearly Prodger. George "Goldie" Prodger was the son of George Prodger b 20 May 1865 and Eva Hardman B 17 February 1863. George Prodger sr was the son of John Prodger b 21 Aug 1820. John Prodger was a private soldier in the 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers - reserve battalion. He came to Canada to do garrison duty and mustered out on or before 1853. John worked for the Grand Trunk Railroad and died 29 May 1901. He had 10 Children, 7 of which survived past infancy. Several of John's children worked for the railroads. In 1901 George sr was living at 703 William street in London Ontario (1901 cennsus records). George sr, Eva and Samuel G Prodger are listed in residence as well as a border named William Prodger. William was my great grandfather.

Here is a link to the 1881 census for the John Prodger household. George sr is at the bottom of the page age 16, http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e329/e008201022.pdf The following page has my great grandfather in same household - age 10. http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e329/e008201023.pdf

The 1891 census shows George married to Eva and Samuel G Prodger 2 months old. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/001081-119.03-e.php?&interval=20&pdf=1&image=30953_148153-00808&person_id_nbr=2021548&&PHPSESSID=296hu6b65n5cr7eptpcg02o6m7

How can Samuel G Prodger b Feb 1891 be George "goldie" Prodgers b February 1892? George "goldie" Prodgers mothers name is listed as Eva living on Oxford street in London Ontario on his attestation papers. Eva and George Prodger sr are together on the 1891 census. It is possible that Samuel G Prodger was a younger brother that died in infancy and George "goldie" was born the next year. Except he is on the 1901 census and is listed as 10 years old. Not only is the surname Prodger with no "s" but he is a year older then the military records show. The 1911 census puts him at 21, born in 1889. The Woodland cemetary in London Ontario shows him as Samuel Prodger (Goldie).

Don't know what to do with this: Alaney2k (talk) 16:55, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

His surname is PRODGER. There is no S. There are census reports, family members etc that attest to this yet still some self-appointed wiki moderator has decided to overrule them all.

here's his page at the London Sports Hall of fame:

  • Hi 207.216.185.227 firstly that link is not a reliable source in fact it is just a copy of this article from probably Dec 2013 (when the way back machine first grabbed a copy here).
  • The link above to the 1881 census looks more like Prodges rather than either spelling. and I can't see any Prodger(s) on the second link.
  • Your accusation that "yet still some self-appointed wiki moderator has decided to overrule them all" is clearly false as the above section added here by the 'family' member did not change the article that was already with an S. Please also see Wikipedia:Civility.
  • Doing a Google search it looks like both names were used in papers and reporting of the time. However its easy to see that people could misinterpret Prodgers for Prodger's and thus Prodger (or Vice Versa)
  • Images from the time on Cigarette cards [1] has Prodgers
  • Image from londonsportshalloffame.com here has Prodgers, but also has another here with Prodger.
  • NHL also has Prodgers here
  • Library and Archives Canada Attestation pagers signed by Prodgers himself with and S here
  • Library and Archives Canada Enlistment Papers signed by Prodgers himself with and S here
  • Also note that family names often changed spelling over time in the past so just because relatives now have no S does not mean they didn't back then.
  • Assuming these are the correct military papers (and the dates match) then the guys own signature is the best evidence we have.

1924-25 Game[edit]

It's been a while since I've done research on the Tigers, but from what I recall he never did play in a game during this season. I'm fairly certain that I have records of all of the games the Tigers played and nowhere is he listed on the line ups. 174.88.18.212 (talk) 22:38, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
