A few notes[edit]

A few notes from the original editor:

In writing the initial article, I have relied primarily on sources written in French and Romanian--two languages about which I know next to nothing and nothing, respectively. Hence, it's been online automated translations to the rescue. I've done my best to interpret; if anyone fluent in French or Romanian wishes to tidy things up, go to it say I!

The corresponding Romanian Wikipedia entry, which appears to be at best sketchily sourced, poses several questions. First, it states that Georgescu received an Iron Cross from the Nazi German government, and many an eBay listing of his recordings parrots the claim. Trouble is, the Wikipedia entry on the Iron Cross indicates that it was a military award, not given to civilians. Therefore, I omitted the Iron Cross award as implausible, but it's entirely possible that Georgescu received some award from the regime. Elucidation would be most welcome. The Romanian entry also details postwar Romanian government awards in a way that, while detailed, is at odds with New Grove; I've gone with the latter in the absence of Romanian documentation. Finally, the Romanian article includes a photograph, which, without more, it claims to be "public domain." An attempt to transfer it to the Commons foundered on a lack of proper evidence of license. I'd encourage someone fluent in Romanian to chase out whether the thing truly is public domain and, if so, put a copy here. Drhoehl (talk) 22:09, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
