Unreferenced anecdote[edit]

moved to talk RJFJR (talk) 20:15, 15 April 2011 (UTC) Those students at Vic High who did not know him feared him. Andrews' coaching style was distinctly old school, severe and succinct. But his heart shone, and his compassion was never far from the surface. In early 1966, one of his students contracted cancer of the spine, long undiagnosed. By Easter it had led to problems walking. During outside gym class, led by Mr Andrews, this student began falling down, and was ridiculed by some students. Andrews realized something was seriously wrong, put his arm around the crying student and helped/carried him to the school nurse, and glared down those students who had been laughing. That student went on to become MLA for Victoria, and never forgot Mr Andrews' kindness that day. Many such stories could be told about this good man and great coach.[reply]

George "Porky" AndrewsGeorge Andrews (basketball) – or Porky Andrews. WP:NICKNAME. Joeykai (talk) 02:22, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support (at least in spirit), per nom / WP:NICKNAME. —BarrelProof (talk) 05:01, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - There aren't many sources covering this person. At least I found one here. If there are not enough sources covering this person, I must oppose this proposal as long as one source uses the current name. --George Ho (talk) 19:37, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment: If the sourcing is weak, that seems like all the more reason to follow our own guidelines (which discourage the insertion of a nickname in quotes) rather than to look for what is the most common in sources. Moreover, that particular source seems to be just using the format to inform people of the nickname rather than indicating that the complete string with the nickname included was the actual common usage. It seems rather similar to a usage of "William 'Bill' Clinton". —BarrelProof (talk) 19:54, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • There aren't sources calling him "George Andrews" or "Porky Andrews" either in reference to the Canadian basketball player. --George Ho (talk) 20:00, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. google:Porky Andrews shows that he is, in fact, almost universally referred to as George "Porky" Andrews or George Porky Andrews. That includes 1 Gbook result [1] (others are not about him). So this should be an exception to WP:NICKNAME. No such user (talk) 12:08, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. --BDD (talk) 16:54, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
