Specs?[edit]

I am still working on getting a comprehensive list of models (past and present) added. Once in place, I am thinking the specifications would be helpful. At least the dimensions of the can, the weight and the metered sound reduction (wet and dry, as applicable). Any thoughts on how to best represent that data? Thanks.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 16:33, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe some type of wiki table? Like Name, length, weight, caliber (maybe range of calibers for some models?) and notes. I am hesitant about dB reduction as I have seen too many factyors influence this and usually take published accounts with a grain of salt. I have some cans classed as noisy that are quiet and the opposite as well.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 16:49, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note. I hear you on the dB reduction figures. I was thinking of clearing marking it with "published reduction" or some such, but agree, there are a ton of factors influence the results so the requisite grain of salt must be taken. Maybe the physical characteristics (dimensions, supported calibers, et al.) and other data (construction material, full-auto rated y/n, et al.) is enough. As to the layout, some sort of Wiki table, properly formatted, could work.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 00:20, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Logo?[edit]

If anyone can obtain and upload a logo for the infobox, I think that would be a nice touch. Thanks.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 16:33, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Done--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 19:32, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

American Silencer Association?[edit]

Sort of a tangential question, but would the American Silencer Association warrant its own Wikipedia article? I am familiar with the organization and some of the literature produced by said, but I don't have a good idea on how much third party coverage they've received. Just a thought. Thanks much.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 00:11, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not a whole lot of third party coverage yet, basically what I put in that section is all I found. Its easier to find articles about particular suppressors than it is about the ASA and I'm sure you know that's a pig.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 00:19, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha and thanks. I'll put it on the back burner for now. On yet another tangent, I've been thinking of increasing the coverage of suppressors on Wikipedia, so that's why I started this article and this particular talk section. I'll bounce some ideas off of the project later.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 00:23, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck with that. I got into a knockdown dragout when I created one on the Windtalker Sound Suppressor last year.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 00:34, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just skimmed through the AfD of said. Wowzer.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 00:45, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
One time I got bitched at for using knife magazines to source an article about knives. People wonder why I have a shitty attitude on here.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 14:21, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Progress & Accessories[edit]

I'm still working through adding their suppressor offerings (past and present). There are a handful left (low single digit) of currently produced models. Finding details on their past models has been a little challenging as there isn't much coverage of suppressors pre-2000s out there. Nonetheless, I've found some data from a couple books I personally have and/or on the web, so I've added a few. Once its up, I think we can move on to cleaning up the listings, adding specs, etc.

The ammunition section is, more or less, done as they only offer a handful of loads (.22 and at least a couple .300 BLK). If/when new loads are produced, that section can be updated.

Anywho, the next step beyond the cans might be adding some details about the accessories produced by GEMTECH. I doubt most are notable enough to mention, though I'd recon some of the mounts might be worth a little details. Any thoughts on what items to include? Not include? Thanks.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 23:24, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the GEMTECH Lanyard is part of the kit for the MARSOC 1911, it's mentioned in that article.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 21:50, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, that is worth a mention.--Surv1v4l1st (Talk|Contribs) 01:30, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
