Flight[edit]

Flight 424 took off from Jakarta at 10:09 am (local time) for a flight to Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. The plane climbed to a cruising altitude of 3,500 feet to fly below the clouds. At 10:43 am, the flight crew requested permission to climb to 9,500 feet. The plane was then instructed to contact Husein tower at 10:45 am, but the tower didn't acknowledge. Flight 424 crashed into the western slope of Mount Burangrang at an altitude of 5,400 feet. The wreckage was found on January 28 on the western slope of Mount Burangrang with no survivors. The aircraft was destroyed by impact and fire.

The probable cause of the accident was the attempt by the pilot to fly over mountainous terrain when unsure of his position and in weather conditions which severely restricted visibility.
