Translation of Aelian's De Natura Animalium[edit]

Scholfield's translation of the text describes Gale as "very incontinent" — the original text is "δεινῶς ἀκόλαστος". That's a bad translation for modern readers, for whom "incontinent" usually has a different meaning. (Scholfield was using the other, almost obsolete, meaning of "lacking sexual restraint"). -- ABehrens (talk) 19:05, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
