"Chinese" changed to "Japanese"[edit]

In November 2006, someone with the IP address 2606:a000:6640:3b00:198e:52fc:bc9f:aa38 changed all references to "Chinese settlers" to "Japanese settlers". Is this historically correct, and is there any basis for these revisions?

I've reverted all edits by what appears to be one particular user last year. The thrust of the edits was to replace the narrative of Gada Meiren fighting against Chinese settlers with one of fighting against Japanese invaders. Since change in narrative was drastic and unsourced and and appears to have a nationalistic/ideological motive, I felt it better to revert. If the edits by the particular user were, in fact, based in fact, I am not opposed to the article being rewritten to fit in with that narrative.
