Sydney/Sidney[edit]

Both the birth registration index and the 1911 census of Wantage spell his name as "Sidney" rather than Sydney, note the 1911 Census form was signed by Fox so he would be unlikely to spell his own name wrong. MilborneOne (talk) 10:32, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace - contestable detail[edit]

I have seen information to contradict what is given in this article. From research in Shropshire newspaper files in Shropshire Archives I long ago read that at the time of his death the Shrewsbury Chronicle reported his birthplace as the hamlet of Ryton, by the larger village of Dorrington which is directly south of Shrewsbury and well to the west of Berrington (which village is SE of the town). The attribution by Freddy of his birthplace to Berrington may have been an error of memory on his part, or if his handwriting was misleading to read, it could have been a misreading of Dorrington. His former headmaster at Dorrington village school, who died in 1936, was reported to have had a wreath sent to his funeral by Freddy, reportedly a former pupil. Unless someone beats me to it, I will revisit Shropshire Archives to identify my published sources before writing this into the article.Cloptonson (talk) 17:32, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have been able to revisit the Shropshire Archives and garner the information I sought from the Shrewsbury Chronicle report. I subsequently incorporated the information within this article but have realised I omitted to note the newspaper's date in the citation. I don't expect to see the Shropshire Archives again until Saturday 2nd July.Cloptonson (talk) 19:43, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have found the note I took shortly before throwing the paper out for recycling and have now been able to add the newspaper's date, saving a revisit to archives.Cloptonson (talk) 10:24, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
