Notability tag[edit]

This article was merged per AfD consensus in March 2000. However, it has been recreated with the insistence of one editor and the acquiescence of another. I cleaned up the article but I also tagged it for {{Notability}} since the notability issues don't appear to be solved. • Gene93k (talk) 17:33, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that this version of the article was different enough that the reasons in the original discussion were no longer entirely valid; I'm open to the possibility that I could have been wrong. What about a new AfD discussion? Or am I wrong in my interpretation of the discussion and the article? I don't want to be violating consensus myself... -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 17:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The main factual substance of the article was previously there in the March 2008 revision that went to AfD. The current article expands on his leadership among Maryland State's Attorneys, but his status as an office holder is not a new fact. He is a county-level prosecutor in a county of 40,000-50,000 people. Notability per WP:POLITICIAN is iffy. • Gene93k (talk) 18:10, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate not having the article deleted without a discussion. I believe the previous consensus has no merit with the current article and is not in violation. The similarities are merely because the article is of the exact same person. I do not believe the Notability tag or another AfD discussion is necessary, but I'm not opposed to another AfD if deemed necessary. I take issue with the rule that small county local elected officials have no notability, being from a small county myself. I would concede to your argument if he was just a small county elected official or just a congressional candidate, but he is both. Though I will admit that there is a lack of National notability there is considerable Notability state wide, as stated in the article. I know an election is not enough, but the race has drawn considerable national attention and will continue to as the election draws near.(Manleypciii (talk) 01:19, 5 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Kratovil is the leading candidate for election in his district as per the latest poll. He has been covered by electronic publications such as Politico and PolitickerMD and the Salisbury, MD based Daily Times. This is sufficient secondary publication coverage of Kratovil, and it seems to me that it fits requirements based on WP:POLITICIAN. Karma Heretic (talk) 15:42, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
this is complete bs!. the man is a major party candidate for the us house of representatives. that, in and of itself, is more than sufficient notability. moreover, as mentioned above, he is probably going to be the next congressman from this district. go look at some of what passes for notability among athletes. i recently saw a retired finnish heptathlete who had never finished better than eighth at the european championships.Toyokuni3 (talk) 18:12, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the consensus at AfD. The general policy for people known for one event is cover the event. Press attention from just running for office does not satisfy WP:POLITICIAN. Neither does a "major party" nomination. You might wan to see some recent Congressional candidate AfDs: Nick Leibham, Tracey Brooks, and Jim Ogonowski). The AfD consensus in March was that Frank Kratovil should be redirected as non-notable. No new facts or policy changes have emerged to change that. • Gene93k (talk) 20:00, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would argue that WP: POLITICIAN should be used more of a guideline than as a strict protocol (maybe this talk page isn't the appropriate spot for that argument). However, I am not arguing for a dismantling of the guideline. In this case, Kratovil is an elected official (2nd level subnational), was elected to lead a group of State's Attorneys AND is a major party candidate garnering considerable media attention. Since the previous AfD discussion, he has gained a major endorsement and is gaining nationwide attention for his run. It meets the general thrust of politician notability standards, even if it does not land solidly on any single one of the bullet points listed on that page. Judge[edit]

If someone wants to incorporate this properly into the article, I don't have time this morning. Kratovil was appointed to be a Judge for the District Court for Queen Anne's County. http://www.wboc.com/story/16409957/omalley-nominates-kratovil-to-be-a-judge David (talk) 13:09, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

His judgeship appointment is added to the article. —ADavidB 03:45, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
