Western Australia[edit]

I have edited the article to provide sources and have it reflect them. The statement that In 1876, as a result of his blackbirding activities, Cadell was arrested and expelled from the Colony of Western Australia is improbable, in that a report from Robert Fairbairn, published in the The Inquirer & Commercial News on 1 March 1876 states that he had 10 malay workers at Shark Bay who had not been properly fed, nor paid wages. Captain Cadell was net present, having left the colony for the Malay Islands some months ago. The impression amongst the pearlers at Shark's Bay is that he will not return Our nor-west settlements. Accounts of him being expelled trace back to Kay Forrest "The Challenge and the Chance: The Colonisation and Settlement of North West Australia, 1861 to 1914" ISBN 9780859052177 I don't have access to the book, but the snippet I have seen simply says when the law finally caught up with Cadell at Shark's Bay in 1876, he decided to move his operations to the Torres Strait. --Find bruce (talk) 23:45, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
