Photo of Fort[edit]

This article could well do with a photograph of the fort, or at the very least, the plaque outside the fort. It's old enough that there should be public domain photographs of the Fort in existance.

It's intimidating size and lack of access makes it difficult for an amateur photrapher such as myself to take the picture to be released to the public domain.

Ok, why is everyone saying fort thomas eat a cake after games? I live in fort thomas and i can tell you that the term "cake eaters" is ment to be an insult because other people view us as being "rich". Indeed, the "cake eater" label was applied to HHS students after post-game food fight in the early to mid 1970s. HHS was hosting the regional boys basketball finals. Highlands' varsity boys were facing either Newport HS or Newport Catholic HS to determine which team would move on to play in the state finals. An enormous sheet cake had been prepared to celebrate Highlands' victory. The game was a highly charged neck-to-neck battle that ended with Highlands losing by 1 point. At the final buzzer the visiting fans stormed the court in celebration of their upset victory and in the midst of this chaos began scooping up handfuls of cake and hurling it at the Highlands' fans while, of course, calling them a bunch of "cake eaters."

Being far from the time of the internet (or even 300 baud modems) even google cannot produce any evidence to validate the veracity of the etymology of "Cake Eater" label given. Hopefully others in their mid-40s are tech enough to support, refine or correct the event as I recall it.

As for pictures of the fort, there's a very nice aerial photo of the fort with all the barracks and other structures still standing. It's in glass case on the ground floor of the gym/rec center near the front entrance (the one facing the tennis courts).
