Problems were not a threat to the facility or safety?[edit]

I beg to disagree. FSV was one critical problem after another. A disaster waiting to happen. Check the link to the history of FSV and really read it. Another category of problems needs to be added: the malfunction of the control rod drives. It was not only an economic decision to decommission. There were safety concerns as the thing was too darn unreliable.71.218.225.168 (talk) 07:02, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Neutronic gas turbine technology?[edit]

The intriguing term "neutronic gas turbine technology" appears in the following parenthetical comment in the "Unique features of the design" section:

Using neutronic gas turbine technology, state-of-the-art HTGRs can reach efficiencies of over 45% in single-cycle mode, even higher efficiencies with combined cycles, and 80-90% with combined heat and power cogeneration.

However, it proves difficult to find out more about the concept referred to. A Google search on this term turns up only this Wikipedia article itself. My best guess is that this may be a mistranslation from a non-English (Russian? French?) reference. Possibly this refers to the so-called "direct cycle gas turbine" in which the gas coolant drives the turbine-generator directly without intermediate heat exchangers?

For the time being, a "Citation needed" flag will be added. Ideally, information about potential efficiency improvements for HTGRs could be integrated into the HTGR article as well. --Piperh (talk) 10:22, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
