The aircraft&gliders took-off around 4:00 AM, but does anybody know wetaher it was still night when they landed on the fort?

According to Trevor Dupuy - "A Genius Adam Beatty landed a few miles away from Koln, after his tow rope parted. He convinced a Luftwaffe transport plane to pick up his glider and he and his eight men arrived in midmorning, while the battle was still going. Another squad was released prematurely and landed in southern Holland, They attempted to reach the fort on foot, encountered resistance, and eventually entered the for with the German ground troops, with 121 prisoners in tow.

On 5 July 2023, it was proposed that this article be moved from Fort Eben-Emael to Fort Ében-Émael. The result of the discussion was moved.

Merge[edit]

Per the tag line at top of the article for the Fort (not battle), the small size of this article lends itself to easy incorporation to the "Battle of". --Flightsoffancy (talk) 21:10, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Having been the primary contributor to the battle article, I don't think there's much in this article that could be merged, to be honest. I do however think it could stand as its own article with more details of its construction and so forth. Skinny87 (talk) 08:02, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree. No need for merging in this case IMHO. It should part of a series of articles on the fortification around Liege build in 1930s after the learning the consequences of the Battle of Liège. See French wiki: w:fr:Ceinture_fortifiée_de_Liège. I've undertaken an expansion to bring it into line with the other Liège articles I've written, but I'm only rating it a start at this point because there's a wealth of published information that could extend the subject without intruding on the battle article. who was he?[edit]

The name Eben-Emael is obviously Biblical. But who was Eben-Emael? Where in the Bible? Does anyone know? No internet article on this fort tells the reader who the heck was his biblical Eben-Emael after whom the fort was named??

There is no “he.” The Belgian forts were named after nearby villages, in this case the merged villages of Eben and Emael. You have to look at the French article to see that, I’ll try to remedy that tomorrow. Acroterion (talk) 02:14, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fort Eben-Emael → Fort Ében-Émael – WP:CONSISTENT with Ében-Émael, the town after which the fort is named. This seems to be a yet another case of en.wp jingoistically dropping diacritics from non-English names, relying on lazy practice by old writers in English, before the ease of computer-based typography made using diacritics much simpler. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 16:45, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
