Continuity[edit]

The Super Buddies are more or less considered canon in DC coninuity. In Countdown to Infinite Crisis, a picture of the group exists in Booster's (or Beetle's) OMAC file. --FuriousFreddy 15:58, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While the team itself may be canonical, the adventures as shown in the miniseries may not be. For one thing, Guy Gardner's presence (and use of a yellow power ring) does not fit with his reintroduction in the Green Lantern: Rebirth mini-series.

By that logic, Countdown to to Infinite Crisis is itself out of continuity, since it came out before the conculsion of Green Lantern: Rebirth, but depicted Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. Or, instead, we could just accept that sometimes events are published out of order. I've modified the Infinite Crisis section of the article to accord with this. Good. I don't understand how people claim it is not in continuity just because of when it was published. --Chris Griswold () 05:27, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shazam![edit]

The fact that the word Shazam does work in Hell was stablished in the 1995 miniseries Underworld Unleashed, in fact being vital to the climax of the story. --Wilfredo Martinez

The magic word "Shazam" worked in hell in that story because the wizard Shazam himslef was also in hell at that time (held captive by Blaze). As explained in The Power of Shazam! series, whenever the wizard Shazam is present in an plane of existence different than the one the Marvel Family is in, Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel cannot transform. Only Captain Marvel, Jr. can, because his power comes from Captain Marvel and not Shazam. And that is why the word does not work in JLA CLassified #6 when Mary tries to use it. If she had something like a Mother Box (Which Cap and Mary had to use when Shazam went to stay on New Genesis after the Genesis crossover), the word would have worked. --FuriousFreddy 13:58, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There was no indication in Underworld Unleashed that the reason the word worked in Hell was because of Shazam's presence in Hell, and further, since Neron was so afraid of it, it makes no sense that he would have allowed Marvel into Hell at a time when Shazam was in Hell. Unless Neron was unaware of the wizard's presence in Hell, which seems very unlikely, specially as Blaze was one of his underlings. This strikes me as a retcon, one of the many introduced in the PoS series, and is very likely contradicted by one or more of the many extradimensional adventures that Captain Marvel has been part of (and will likely be part of.) Wilfredo Martinez 14:42, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Power of Shazam issues that tied into Underworld Unleashed (#'s 9 - 12, published at the exact same time) show Shazam being kidnapped by Blaze and driven to Hell. Not sure why Neron wasn't aware of Shazam being present in hell (inconsistent writing, perhaps?), but Shazam was indeed present in hell during UU (which is why Cap shows up in that series in the first place--he was originally looking for the wizard). --FuriousFreddy 15:44, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The very fact that Neron was seemingly unaware that Marvel's magic word would not work on dimensions where Shazam was not present is a major gaff that can only be blamed on poor writing and/or editing. Further, Shazam's base, The Rock of Eternity, itself exists on another dimension. It must also be noted that the Power of Shazam series introduced many revisions to the Captain Marvel legend that were hotly debated at the time, such as the fact that all three Marvels must split their powers between each other when they transform simultaneously. It's very likely that many of these changes will be eventually rebooted or simply ignored by other writers, if they haven't been already. Wilfredo Martinez 21:29, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Rock of Eternity is not in another dimension as such; it's in all dimensions simultaneously. While it wasn't established in UU that the magic word only worked in Hell because Shazam was there, the reverse was established (i.e. Cap couldn't change on Earth while the wizard was in Hell). It was also established when Shazam travelled to New Genesis that he would not be able to grant the Marvels their power from there unless they carried Mother Boxes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.39.80.195 (talkcontribs) 10:43, 10 August 2005
