Smithsonian

Does the the Smithsonian collect everything and anything that Americans, some or a lot, like? Because I cannot find the significance of Fonzie as a musuem exihibit from the article as of now. Although I did hear him mentioned twice: Once in Pulp Fiction (where Fonzie is described as "cool and calm") and another in Phoebe's pregnancy episode of Friends. --Menchi 12:24 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)

PioneerGrrrlI deleted the 'Republican categorization because it was innacurate. I've always--even as a little girl--thought of the Fonz as more of a generic community organizer. That is a more accurate classification.

Sandbox

Middle Name

I believe The Fonz's middle name was Dren, and was addressed in an episode.

international links

All the international links (except de:Fonzie) are wrong.

it:Fonz, es:Fonz, pt:Fonz, an:Fonz, eu:Fonz are all about some Spanish town called Fonz, but the problem is that they all link back to en:Fonzie. The page en:Fonz actually exists, but is a redirect to en:Fonzie again. So if one goes here will be misled.

Fonzarelli Not a Real Surname

Prob. not of relevance to the page itself, but I thought it interesting to note that Fonzarelli is not an actual surname. I presume the name is supposed to be Italian, but it is not a surname in any language. Of course, it is not real like all non-Italian cast members of ridiculous programs pretending to be Italian, including the gross mispronouncing of Italian words on many of these shows, this guy "Fonzi" is make believe Italian. I have to find the reference that they wanted an Italian "male model type" for the character of Fonzi, but Winkler walked in (who of course looks nothing like an Italian or a male model.) His over the top characterisation (which frankly in my opinion is more Jewish in characterisation than authentically Italian) nonetheless got him hired. Why? Hell if I know. Possible Inclusion: "Veggies"?

Maybe I was too young to remember a precedent, but I'm nearly certain that Fonzie's character was responsible for popularizing, if not coining (okay the show's writers), the term "veggies" as a shortened form of "vegetables." The word may have existed before he said it, but I doubt it'd be in as wide-spread usage had it not been for Fonzie and Happy Days. Opinions? Citation needed

The mention of the thumbs-up sign as a covert "flip-off" needs a citation; nothing in the show implies this; fonzie didn't give people the thumbs-up sign when angry or annoyed with people. It was always displayed in a positive light. Michael.Urban (talk) 19:27, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Double entendre: Fonzie jumps over a shark while on water-skis

The caption for the image confuses me, it has a double meaning I am not sure to understand. This guideline states that articles should not be written using doublespeak. Not so much a double-entendré, Nicolas1981; you've just discovered the source of the phrase Jumping the shark. It was coined because the series that the character appeared in, Happy Days had run out of stories to tell, so they started creating increasingly unbelievable plotlines - aliens from outer space (Mork from Ork) and, of course, jumping a shark while wearing a leather biker jacket. The actor Henry Winkler is Jewish. The character he plays may also be partly Jewish, but the only sign I recall indicating this is a reference to the name Nussbaum in the character's family.Smiloid (talk) 07:14, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Mother

This is confusing:

As a child, he and his mother were abandoned by his father.

In a later episode, Fonz unexpectedly meets a woman he believes is his mother in a diner. She convinces him she is not, but in the end she looks at a picture of Fonz as a small child and sighs.

I presume that he's lost contact with his mother by adulthood but this isn't explained Nil Einne (talk) 11:07, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't know that Angela the waitress really was his mother. Granted, the boy she looks at looks like he could be young Fonzie, but it could also be another dark-haired child. They followed up somewhat on his father in the final season. If this Angela really had been his mother, I think they would have brought her back, since the show still had three or four more seasons to go. I think it showed (and I think she stated) that she did have a little boy she left behind, it was someone other than Fonzie, and maybe now she would look for him. Didn't Foznie have a brother, or a half brother? I remember an episode where he shows up, informing Fonzie that their father had died at sea. Funny People Reference

Adam Sandler makes a reference to Fonzie in the movie Funny People - maybe that should be added somewhere. Seth Rogen's character mentions that he needs a cigarette or that he started smoking again... Sandler says "Why? Because it makes you look like The Fonz?" I thought that line was pretty damn funny, the way he says it. Pop Cultural Influence omission: Sears 'Thumbs Up' jeans, The Martian (film)

Circa 1977, the Sears Roebuck Company introduced a brand of jeans called 'Thumbs Up'. Henry Winkler discussed this on a TV talk show regarding the unexpected power of his Fonzie image. Citation? His other jacket…

It says that due to studio pressure he could initially only wear the leather jacket in scenes with the bike present, otherwise wearing a white windbreaker; however, although he may have worn a white jacket at times (perhaps a garage coverall?), the nylon windbreaker jacket he wore was usually blue - there are plenty of pics of it to be found. Contradictions

This article says Cunningham appeared in all episodes but the Henry Winkler article says he left before the end of the series. This article also says Mickey Dolenz was first considered for the role but the Winkler article says that they were looking for a tall, hunky blonde (which Dolenz was not).
