Address[edit]

Revised to reflect new research: A September 15, 1913 Irish Times article mentioning the comings and goings of high society, mentions Miss Florence Culwick as returning to 62 Upper Leeson Street. Article is behind a paywall but here: https://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/archive/1913/0915/Pg008.html#Ar00807:A4D452A8F46C The Culwick Choral Society produced book states that this was her last address. Should this be used as her place of death, or should it not be mentioned as it appears she died in a hospital (or at last 'in the middle, reportedly, of lighthearted banter with a nurse.' Also, is this a valid use of the talk page? Citetic (talk) 18:18, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Citetic: Yes, absolutely, Talk pages are for discussion of such matters as article improvements, and new related articles (but not for just random discussion of the article topic). SeoR (talk) 17:52, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SeoR: Great thanks. Also, note to self to actually read the article, which has the location of death in it. For some reason I thought it didn't. --Citetic (talk) 07:56, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Grand; you could still also mention the last address, citing the book. SeoR (talk) 08:59, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Culwick Choral Society[edit]

A clear case for an article, with the link ready here. I hope someone can work on this, if not, might try it myself, sure there are enough materials, albeit some only offline.SeoR (talk) 10:31, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SeoR: I have started this article in my sandbox. It's my first article, so I'm not sure at what point to publish, but I'll do some more work on it first. Citetic (talk) 16:51, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Citetic: Delighted to hear it, an article is sorely needed. Definitely don't rush, and come with good referencing (harder with so many libraries closed), and I am sure it will fit well. I'll keep an eye out. SeoR (talk) 17:44, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Citetic: and @SeoR:, looks like there is a book The Culwick Choral Society Celebrates One Hundred Years 1888-1998 aside from that it looks like some passing mentions in music journals or some biographical details on James Cooksey Culwick. It's a short book, and published by the Choir itself so not ideal but something to look out for. Smirkybec (talk) 11:46, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SeoR: and @Smirkybec:: Thanks, I got my hands on The Culwick Choral Society Celebrates One Hundred Years 1888-1998 and it was indeed published by the Culwick Choral Society, I'll get additional sources where available. I suspect a lot of information is only found here as it comes directly from their archives, in particular, dates of performances etc. It may be that many were also reviewed in newspapers. I'll see how I get on.
@Smirkybec:, great tip, thanks! @Citetic:, and great work, especially at this time with most libraries and bookshops inaccessible. For such bodies, it is often very hard to secure substantive materials in national papers or other serious independent sources, and ideally we would not have only primary sources. Here, in my experience, Dublin-based groups can miss out, as the big papers are often lacking space to detail events in mid-level or suburban venues, and even full coverage of national - and local papers, if any, are often poorly archived - while in a typical county there might be 40-96 pages of regional paper with details on even quite small events and groups. And Wikipedia, and notably some reviewers, are now tougher on citation / proof-of-notability up-front. But with understanding, I look forward to the outcome. @SeoR: and @Smirkybec::I should have mentioned that my work in progress is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Citetic/sandbox and also James Cooksey Culwick here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Citetic/James_Cooksey_Culwick (Hope it's ok to post those links like that, knowing that when they are published as articles, those sandbox articles will no longer exist).
@Citetic: Thanks, would love to take a peek. And yes, quite proper. SeoR (talk) 17:52, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SeoR: and @Smirkybec:I published James Cooksey Culwick earlier today, if you have any comments, critique etc. Thanks for the encouragement. Citetic (talk) 14:24, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Citetic: Well done! Looks great, I have added some categories and other organising items. Congratulations on your first Wikipedia article! Smirkybec (talk) 15:31, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
