No Mountain[edit]

The most disappointing aspect of this movie is the absence of Mountain, although there is one scene where we see Leslie West jamming on the train. I thought Mountain was the best group in the original concerts (yes I was there), so it was a big let-down not to see any of their stage performances in the movie. Why? I dont know, but its probably (a) lack of complete high-quality performance scenes, or (b) the movie producers couldn't get (or afford) the permissions from the current copyright holders. The latter may be complicated by the fact that Felix Pappalardi was shot by his wife in 1983. Too bad.

why did it take 30+ years?[edit]

i was hoping that Wikipedia would answer my question as to why the footage never found it's way into production during the era it was filmed. after all that effort to book and organize all of those groups, then to actually tape it, and then to not release it until Brittany Spears is pop music? what's the real story? any links to articles on this topic would be appreciated.

Good point. A sitdown with the disc's special features tells the tale of how the film reels were hauled around by the Poolman family over the years and stored in a garage. Slippin' And Slidin' is NOT on A Musical History[edit]

It says in this article that the Band's cover of Slippin' And Slidin' is on the dvd of the the Band compilation A Musical History. THat is not true. I guess it's okay to just go and delete it. Oh, that was me writing that. I forgot to log in. ElChrissos 22:05, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't say it was on the DVD, did it? It said "included on The Band's A Musical History box set." That said, though, I have no way of knowing if the track on CD 3 of the box set is taken from the Festival Express tour, so I took that detail out. — WiseKwai 11:48, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are Delaney, Bonnie and Friends Actually In The Movie?[edit]

While the DVD and the Film's poster list them as appearing, they don't do any songs nor do I recognize any of them playing in any of the jams! s-slaytor I have now added a comment to this effect and also moved the laudatory film review comments to the end of the article. While I agree with them, not everyone does! Plus they interupted the flow of the article where they were. s-slaytor

reply from producer: Delaney, Bonnie and Friends weren't filmed, unfortunately, but Delaney appears in the film twice (in the opening shots jamming with Leslie West, and on stage with Ian & Sylvia and Jerry Garcia playing CC Rider, and Bonnie walks past the camera a couple of times. Different DVD versions[edit]

I just got Festival Express on DVD and it is just 1 disc, are there several (at least two, I guess) versions, and if so - could those with the know list the differences and add it to the article?--Weedar 22:41, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the festival itself[edit]

This article needs more info about the festival itself. VIA Rail (successor of, and separated form the CN Railway passenger serivce, whom carried the musicians) on board Destination magazine ran a feature about the festival. [1] SYSS Mouse (talk) 15:26, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calgary reporter[edit]

I finally watched this film recently. I was curious if anyone can identify the reporter who begins the Calgary segment with what appears to be a news report shot at the venue prior to the start of the concert. From what I can tell, the reporter is Ed Whalen, best known as the announcer of both the Calgary Flames and Stampede Wrestling. I'm not really sure about that, though.
