FINA World Swimming Championships redirect[edit]

Would it be better if FINA World Swimming Championships redirected to the larger, more well known FINA World Aquatics Championships? Personally, I think it would. Thewiikione 07:44, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. The FINA World Aquatics Championships includes all 5 aquatic disciplines (swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming, and open water swimming), and the swimming portion is conducted in a 50m pool (same as the Olympics). The "Swimming World Championships (25m)" as these are stylized, are swimming-only, and held in a 25m pool. They are also held annually, whereas the main "Aquatics Worlds" are now held every two years (originally every 4 years). They are 2 separate events. There are parallel, single-sport aquatics world events to the Short Course Worlds: Grand Prix Final (diving), Open Water Worlds (open water), World League (water polo), and World Trophy (synchro). Suggestion to move article to correct FINA event name[edit]

The correct name as used by FINA for this event is "FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m)", with the prefix "Xth" for the edition. It is therefore suggested changing the name of this article and the relevant articles of the championship editions to match this naming convention. Example reference: Latest FINA press release. Multiple medalists[edit]

Major RfC on capitalization of all our articles[edit]

I thought this was a done deal back in this 2022 RFC but obviously not. A handful of editors did another rfc with no sports projects input at all. And it's being challenged because we just noticed it. This could affect almost every single tennis and Olympic article we have, and goodness know how many other sports. Some may have already been moved it you weren't watching the article. And not just the article titles will be affected but all the player bios that link to the articles. Sure the links would be piped to the right place if thousands of articles moved, but if the wording in a bio still said 2023 Wimbledon Championships – Men's singles or Swimming at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 metre backstroke that would likely need to be changed by hand. There is also talk of removing the ndash completely.

Perhaps this is what sports projects want and perhaps not. Either way I certainly don't want projects ill-informed as the last RfC was handled. Express your thoughts at the following rfc. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:17, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recommendation to move page to new name adopted by World Aquatics[edit]

As per World Aquatics constitution, this meet will now become World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) as of the 2024 championships in Budapest, Hungary.
