Creeping bias[edit]

I don't listen to the radio and so didn't know anything about the fuss that the subject of this article created, but it was clear to me that the relevant section was largely put there by someone who wanted to kick O'Rourke. I happen to agree with the notion of gay adoption, but when it comes to WP I am only interested in NPOV. I have removed the POV wording, provided better references and cut excessive quotage from the Irish Independent journalist, who after all is only a commentator on the matter. I'm tempted to cut the McMahon quote completely because he has nothing to do with the matter, he just made a comment about it. The real meat is the discussion itself and the BCC decision. OK, if it provokes debate it can only be good for the improvement of the article. It is, after all, only starting out. However, is it the Independent that's conservative or is it the journalist? Perhaps we need a reference for the paper itself being conservative? --➨♀♂Candlewicke ST # :) 21:05, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Indo is, as they say, "notoriously" conservative, which is another way of saying that it's such a well-known fact among Irish newspaper readers that nobody ever bothers to point out. I did find an Irish Times article here which points out that the Independent gets most of its foreign news from the UK Daily Telegraph, and the Telegraph is definitely a conservative paper. There's another reference here to it being conservative (and also to it having "poor content"). My criticism of this article was based on the evidence that whoever wrote most of it did so in order to smear its subject, who is a not especially notable radio journalist. I happen to not mind her at all and that would certainly not reflect my views on the subject matter either so I'm sorry if it came across in such a way. The episode just appears to be much more detailed than any other in her relatively short career so far. With regards to notability though - she has appeared on numerous radio and television shows. In fact no sooner had I created her she popped up on The Panel which, as far as I remember, has happened to me before... --➨♀♂Candlewicke ST # :) 19:46, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
