History[edit]

I think it would be interesting to have a bit more history of EuroAirport (well all airport articles would be great to have more history), as the article doesn't really go into how it was only ever Basle/Mulhouse, and then some time ago Freiburg got chucked into the mix - do German authorities have any authority in the airport? etc, etc. I will also be asking a photographer who has Basle as his home airport to see if he has any old (and new) airport pics which can be used in the article (if you look at my recent image contributions, you will see that he has been a great source for old, rare and of course fantastic airliner images). --Russavia 19:05, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

History section added.

Sorry I can't find a date for when the German's became part-owners (other than the name change in 1987). I believe they own a smaller proportion than the French or Swiss. There is no "German zone" at the airport. The bus to Freiburg leaves from the French side, and most passengers arriving/leaving by road to/from Germany do so from the French side, as it saves doubling back via Basel. There are no border controls between France and Germany. If they are arriving by train it would be easier to go via Basel and the bus from Basel SBB station.

Inside the airport you can cross the border on foot, but there is no road crossing, to drive between the French and Swiss sides you need to go via Basel. The map here shows the Zollfreistrasse/Route Douanière to the Swiss side and the parallel French Autoroute A35 to the French side, which do not connect until they cross the border into Switzerland. Effects of Schengen on EuroAirport[edit]

There is no discussion on how the imminent implementation of the Schengen agreement in Switzerland is going to affect EuroAirport. It seems like this would be highly relevant as it could completely change how the airport is operated.Ekips (talk) 13:04, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to the website for example [1] and [2] and [3], it is still divided into French and Swiss halves.
The reason is customs check and visas. It should be possible to travel between Switzerland and non-Schengen countries without going through French passport and customs check. The main difference with Schengen is that travel between Switzerland and a Schengen place like Paris can be done without passport check at arrival (but still id check at departure), but customs check at arrival must be done if Switzerland is the destination but not if France is the destination. --BIL (talk) 14:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IATA codes[edit]

Note that EAP is the IATA code of the metropolitan area, not of the airport itself. See the IATA code search page for details. So, strictly speaking, that airport has got (only) two IATA codes, MLH and BSL. -- Denis.arnaud (talk) 11:25, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, according to IATA code search page EAP is not only a city code (second column) , but also an Airport code. See forth column! While, e.g. LON is only a city code!? --ZH8000 (talk) 18:14, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bizarre nativename selection in infobox[edit]

Err, I'm bemused by the selection of names in the infobox. As far as I'm aware, the native language of France is French, of Germany is German, and of the relevant bit of Switzerland is also German. Is i.Br. a typo or a real word?[edit]

The Wikipedia:Typo Team/moss spell checker has found a possible typo that a copyeditor needs help to resolve. If i.Br. is misspelled, it can just be corrected in this article. If i.Br. is a legitimate word, it should be added to the English Wiktionary (which defines words in all languages) with a definition at wikt:i.Br.. International Status?[edit]

"EuroAirport is one of the few airports in the world operated jointly by two countries"
As far as I know it is the only one with this kind of particular arrangement. The only other I can think of is Geneva but arriving international passengers cannot freely chose to between Switzerland and France - I believe they must chose the former.
