Fundamentally not unique

Machines with the same internal printing technology have existed for a long time—digital presses in any print shop or large copyshops will be able to print a colour or BW from a PS or PDF file. I suspect that the actual physical printing mechanism is not so different compared to other digital presses, and the innovation lies with its firmware (easy interface etc) and small footprint (both space and electricity wise). "Digital press" is a fairly generic term. The Espresso Book Machine prints the pages and the cover (on different stock), sorts, aligns and cuts the pages, and then perfect binds them to the cover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.17.76.101 (talk) 02:10, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

In reply to both the above I would say, from a life spent in print and publishing, that it seems incredibly compact for a device that prints AND binds. I would guess from the look of it that one of the drawers has pre-printed covers as it would have been a miracle at that date to have separate text and cover printers handling multiple paper/board stocks C.cohen (talk) 18:34, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
