Cleanup[edit]

I've tried to convert from the original language - but more needs to be done. This article needs major tidying, citing sources, etc. Ian Cairns 11:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How can there be 140,000 mortalities due to air pollution alone when in the whole of Belgium there are but 101.946 deaths (2004 figures) and in Flanders 56.199 (2004). 140,000 in relation to a population of about 10 million means just about 1 person out of every seventy!!!! I happen to live in Brussels and so far I haven't noticed people falling over dead in the street from air pollution at this rate. I am certainly no expert on these matters but outright nonsense of this kind should be removed asap, without bothering to find out the correct figures if any are available. Looking at the WHO 2006 report on mortality (link), I see there were 102000 deaths in 2006. If you add together lung cancers and lower resperatory infections you get 12000 deaths, which is close to the first statement of 13500 deaths due to pollution. Note that you can get lung/trachea/bronchus cancer from sources other than pollution. That said, I've been hacking away at the worst of it and looking for information that can honestly be merged into other pages, such as the main Belgium article. -- mordel (talk) 18:33, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really don't know where to begin! Obviously this person has decided to use Wikipedia as a medium for what I can only describe as propaganda. Coming from one who would describe himself as an ardent environmentalist, this should exemplify the pains at which this person has gone to what I can only describe as fabrication of the whole article. Serious revision is most definitely required, and possibly an entire re-write. The Article should be set in a scholarly tone as fits Wikipedia's requirements.

Belgium is certainly not an environmental paragon. However, has anybody thought of this article as being simply satirically? Take only this one: in summer, visiting Africans complain it's "too hot" ... even I as somebody coming from more Northeastern shores do not complain about that ;-) ... --LupusBXL 01:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup not necessary[edit]

Seriously, this page does not need cleanup. It needs to be erased. I'll see if I can rewrite it a bit. Piet | Talk 14:55, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry... It had to be done. I really didn't find anything worth keeping. The article is not in a very good state at the moment, I'll rewrite the different parts later. It should be easy enough as there's more than enough information from the different environmental agencies. Piet | Talk 19:20, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I remember there's some "under construction" tag that I would like to place on the article, but I don't find it. No more time now. Piet | Talk 19:26, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good call on clearing out the article. I added the {{underconstruction}} tag. --David Edgar (talk) 08:56, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

I'm going to split this in regional sections, because of large differences in legislation and because I don't know the situation in Wallonia very well. Piet | Talk 18:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update needed[edit]

This page need to be updated... the page is based on EPI result from 2006... the EPI rating from 2012, http://epi.yale.edu/epi2012/rankings , show that Belgium is in the category "strong performer", and in the top 10 of the "strongest improver"
