Cities[edit]

If anybody is interested. in 1962 as a young DJ/Chief Engineer of radio station WARE in Ware, Massachusetts, it was Richard B. Johnson who was almost fired for making the joke; "Governor Peabody was the first governor in the state to have four towns named after him. They are Endicot, Peabody, Marblehead, and Athol." Al Roberts was the station owner/manager at the time and he was furious because he helped on the Peabody campaign. Twenty or more years later, Howie Carr, a Boston radio personality took credit for the comment, but Johnson was out of the state and couldn't defend himself --or call him a descriptive name. Anyway, it's in the book, Abominable Firebug ISBN 0595386679 if anybody wants to add that reference.LymanSchool 19:58, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IIRC, Charles Laquidara of WBCN had a fondness for the joke in the 1980s as well.70.88.213.74 (talk) 22:13, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where exactly is "Endicott"? There are SECTIONS of Danvers, Peabody, etc., by that name, but I can't see any actual TOWN among the MA listings.

And Howie Carr is many things, but plagiarist is hard to believe. Where/when he did supposedly steal the joke? Also in that book? 66.105.218.4 (talk) 06:38, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Facts[edit]

I don't think that FACTS should be changed because somebody didn't like them. At the time in question, there was a village called Endicott, [1] -- still is. Further, it was me that got into trouble for making that joke on the air at radio station WARE. LymanSchool 17:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

High school[edit]

The article William Penn Charter School claims Endicott Peabody as an alumnus. I'll leave it to the more regular editors to fit such info into the article, since I should really be eating breakfast and going to work right now. Here is a link to the reference, which should be included as a book: [2] --Bossi (talkgallerycontrib) 11:34, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
