Untitled[edit]

I recall hearing somewhere that this brave and strong-willed woman also put up a last bit of resistance when the Japanese moved in to finally take over. It was something involving the great seal of state - she hid it, or refused to hand it over, something like that.

Syngman Rhee's fear of her, and his keeping her virtually imprisoned, is a sign of the great respect she was held in by the Korean people. Princess Pangja was also greatly respected and loved, but was not, being Japanese, a potential ruler. Queen Yun was. you have to ascertain that the image is freely licensed (no restriction on commercial use) or public domain (generally, over 100 yrs old for 2d images). adding images properly is not for the faint of heart, imho. see WP:IUP, for starters, there's a lot to read. A sweet anecdote[edit]

My wife just told me this anecdote which illustrates the Korean love of learning. My wife's mother's younger brother married, in about 1955 or so, the daughter of Queen Yun's younger sister. My wife was flower girl at the wedding, and as part of the whole deal, Queen Yun gave her a gift - a recently translated to Korean book series of children's classic books. "Titles from Birth"[edit]

Dan, this is Heran again...

I just wanna edit some titles of Empress Sunjeong, and from the little I know (besides also reading the "Goong" manhwa), I just wanna make sure that I'm not making some mistakes. So, can you help me? I'd be glad if you can...

(above 2 titles ignored in Korea, I know...)

  • Her Imperial Majesty The Empress Dowager of Korea (1926-1966) --> still this ignored???
  • Her Late Imperial Majesty, Empress Sunjeong of Korea (Posthumous Title) --> will I give her posthumous title (which, by the way, is Sunjeong Hyo Hwanghu Sunjeong, the Filial Empress)??

Hey, Heran, welcome back - the Yun family name is also spelled Yoon, so yes, to your first question. Your second two titles and styles are correct. It seems to have returned. Here's what he says about Empress Sunjeong "m. (second) at the Toksu Palace, Seoul, 24th January 1907, H.I.M. Empress Yun-bi [Son-jong-hyo Hwang-hu] (b. at Myongdong, Seoul, 20th August 1894, d.s.p. at Nakson-jae, Ch'angduk Palace, Seoul, 3rd February 1966, bur. Yu-nung, Kumgok), styled Dowager Princess In by the Japanese after 1926 (ignored in Korea), rcvd: GC of the Orders of the Auspicious Phoenix of Korea (24.1.1907), and the Precious Crown of Japan (27.8.1907), became a Buddhist nun in old age, daughter of H.E. Yun T'ak-yung [In Toku-ei], 1st Marquis In, sometime Lord Steward and Grand Chamberlain. " That's from http://www.royalark.net/Korea/korea9.htm. I'm fairly certain the present photo is not Empress Sunjeong, but Empress Sunmyeong. Anyone think otherwise? If not, I'll change it to one I am more certain is Empress Sunjeong. Snow (talk) 04:29, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
