Untitled[edit]

Why is the summary about the film, not the book? And how is this related to Japan? It's told from an entirely British perspective. None of the Japanese have any speaking parts.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.67.130.42 (talk) 22:30, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

-Sure they do, they're just in Japanese.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.162.107.60 (talk) 08:59, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yea there needs to be a book section and a film section --70.22.177.226 06:28, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Split articles[edit]

I've split the article into two: Empire of the Sun for the novel and Empire of the Sun (film) for the film. The reason I felt a split was necessary because the novel and sun are more important in their own separate rights, and the article was quite confusing with both a film and novel infobox, two different summaries, etc. The movie article needs quite a lot of work, though, so if you feel you can help, lend a hand! Plot summary[edit]

Also, I'm not positive if the plot described here pertains to the novel (which I've not read) or the film (which I watched years ago and cann't remember in great detail). If someone can determine this, and fix both articles to reflect their proper summaries -- because I'm certain the film is not exactly like the novel in plot description -- that would be great. - It's for the film. I'll move it to the film article, but I don't have time to write a new summary for the book's plot, sorry. Sh5626 23:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I now wrote a short plot summary. --Cyfal (talk) 17:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shanghai International Settlement[edit]

I'm assuming this is the location the novel starts out in? If so, it might be an interesting bit of trivia worth mentioning in both articles. -- MiG 20:15, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Differences between book and film?[edit]

I haven't seen the film or book for several years, but I recall one major difference: In the film, the boy came to identify with the Japanese, seeking their approval. In the book, he did not; it was a much more conventional war survival story, where he adapted to privation by stealing from them. Hcunn (talk) 00:47, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Civilian Assembly Center = C.A.C. in the song?[edit]

In the song of the "Lunghua sophomores", there's a line mentioning C.A.C. ("..doesn't mean a thing to me.."). Does it stand for "Civilian Assembly Center"? --CopperKettle 08:55, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

– Most of the titles at Empire of the Sun (disambiguation) have more page views in the last 30 days than the current primary topic. Furthermore, that the term can refer to the Empire of Japan clearly has precedence in terms of long-term significance, an article that dwarfs others here in terms of page views. A preponderance of these observations indicates the novel is clearly not the primary topic, and instead suggests there is no primary topic for this term. • Support. Although Empire of Japan is not a significant consideration, both the film and the band each get many multiples of the pageviews of the novel. If anything, the film is the WP:primary topic. - Station1 (talk) 04:53, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination and Station1. There are five entries listed upon the Empire of the Sun (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the book's renown overwhelms the combined notability of the remaining four entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 20:14, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support At the very least, no primary topic, though the film might very well be. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 03:39, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I do not think there is a clear primary topic and I think it would be best to lead readers to the disambiguation page so they can access the topic they are looking for. Aoba47 (talk) 20:48, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
