Classification of film[edit]

I noticed this film is categorized under Category:1980s_horror_films. I find this incorrect, based on several points:

• The definition of a horror film describes such films as "designed to elicit fright, fear, terror, or horror from viewers". Anyone who has seen this beloved movie can clearly attest that this was certainly not the intention. Peterson's Elvira has always been a "comical character" and "quick-witted personality", marked by "campy humor, obvious sex appeal, and good-natured self-mockery."

• In the same Wikipedia article, "Some horror films incorporate elements of other genres such as science fiction, fantasy, mockumentary, black comedy, and thrillers". This is the obverse of what this movie achieved; this was a comedy that incorporated elements of other genres that it was lampooning. Specifically, it parodies everything from "Flashdance" to "The Wizard Of Oz". [1]

• The film itself was marketed as comedy, following the traditional Elvira style. Note the movie poster, which states, "Elvira makes her Big Scream Debut in her Hot New Comedy."

As I'm not a account holder with Wikipedia (I spend quite a bit of time on other MediaWiki projects), I'll leave it to a "regular" to make such a change. But should any discussion be required, I encourage anyone to reference the sources I've mentioned, as well as watching the movie for themselves, before making a decision.

External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Please take a moment to review my edit. Renewed interest online[edit]

I'm thinking about adding a new section going over the fact that there are a lot of new videos on YouTube where people are watching & reviewing the film. If I add the YouTube links as citations would this count as Original research or not? I'm struggling to find an external source discussing it so I'm not sure how to proceed or even whether I should?
