Promotional status[edit]

I'm a little concerned about the flag at the top of this page-- this is most definitely NOT an advertisement. While it's all taken from a few primary sources--right now-- it will be fleshed out a little more soon. I only made this page like an hour ago and I'm trying to find more varied information on her.

As for notoriety, she's a current mayor of a US city and one with a major research university in it. She's also caused a lot of brouhahas with northwestern, which will be addressed on the page shortly. Trying to lay the skeleton of basic info first.

As it reads now it sure sounds like the article is promotional. You can't see that? Eeekster (talk) 02:36, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see that. I see "facts-facts-facts-facts-awards-awards-committees-programs-awards-criticism-criticism-criticism" Sigmapidelta (talk) 02:54, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It did read, not so much like an advertisement, but like something that might have been found on a campaign site. That is what is meant by promotional, i think. Much more stress on positive than negative. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 03:48, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
IMO, the tone wasn't so good at first, but it's gradually improved. —C.Fred (talk) 03:49, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Mayors of significant US cities are generally notable, and there appears to be plenty of press coverage to make notability a non-issue here, I think the tag is not warranted. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 02:28, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Evanston isn't very notable being a small town. Eeekster (talk) 02:35, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Legally it is a city, and it has a population of over 74,000 accordign to our article on it. That isn't what I think of asa a small town, althoguhn it is a long way from NYC. 03:45, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Evanston, Illinois is actually pretty notable and I'm not just saying that as someone who currently lives there. It's the home of Northwestern University, a few dozen national/international organizations, and a bunch of other stuff that has been deemed notable enough in the past. I also went back into other articles in which she's mentioned and linked them to her page. So it's not like she's an orphan. As a sidenote-- she's not just notable in Evanston, she's notorious. Trying to keep a fair hand, though, which might be why someone thought this sounded like an "advertisement" which still confuses me. Can someone explain that tag?Sigmapidelta (talk) 02:52, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Mayors of US cities are presumed to be notable, but they still need to meet WP:GNG. That's my concern with the article: I don't see any secondary sources that are written about Tisdahl. The stories are about events involving her, not about her. (Her website and her City of Evanston bio don't count because they're self-published sources.) —C.Fred (talk) 03:39, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A person who is covered in many independent news stories from multiple reliable sources about multiple events is, I think, sufficiently notable. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 03:45, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reference format[edit]

References should be written so that the source being cited is clear without needing to follow a link or look at the wiki code. for example one citation currently says just "Man Is Shot To Death In Evanston Bar Fight" and you have to follow or at least hover over the link to see tjhis is a reference to a Chicago Tribune article. The Tribune would certainly be a reliable source in most circumstances, but the citation should be given in full. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 02:33, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So why don't you fix it? Eeekster (talk) 02:37, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am working on it right now. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 02:47, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. But I wanted to make the point here first so the initial poster and others could see WHY the change was made. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 03:25, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Doing the Best I Can[edit]

I am just a humble researcher in Evanston/Northwestern and have absolutely no experience with HTML or with the nuts and bolts of code. Please have mercy. I also didn't realized that I had to create a fully-formed, perfect, and quadruple-edited page the minute it became live. Sigmapidelta (talk) 02:48, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You don't. But the talk page is for pointing out where improvements can and should be made. That doesn't mean you need to make all, or indeed any, of them. But you might want to note what suggestions are made, for future reference. 173.73.44.65 (talk) 03:22, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
