Untitled[edit]

just edited his bio to list his residence and ocupation as past tense... after all, his current occupation is "hostage", and his current residence is probably "somewhere in Iran"... neither of those can be proved though, so I'll obviously omit that from the article.

Ok, I don't know where this soldier was captured (I actually came here trying to find out) but the wording in this article is extremely NPOV. I am a pretty vocal supporter of Palestine and Lebanon, but the wording under "The Raid" needs to be changed and also I would like clarification of where the soldiers were captured. Joe 18:53, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article is extremely biased and badly worded. I would like to see it either taken out or completely re-edited. I myself will do so if no one else volunteers in the next few days. [Gisela]

I did a little repair work on it but it still needs some work. Gisela, if you would be so kind, should you see the need. I didn't have time to load in media sources. I deleted most of the anti-israel talk, put in the IDF side of what happened, and changed the wording of the pro-hezbollah section by putting in words such as "allegedly". [Mike]

The translation was brutal so I redid it. Its not great but at least now its understandable. --Bmoy 21:38, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conspiracy theory[edit]

I split the second paragraph of "The Raid" into its own little conspiracy theory section because it's claiming that the Israelis basically staged and lied about the incident.

The web site used to support the claim has a link to 9/1l conspiracies as well. I don't think it's much of a news source.

Um...can whoever keeps incorporating the "conspiracy theory" as an addendum to the general article stop doing that??? I understand that you are passionate about your stance on the issue but there is no need to make this article so un-NPOV with, at best, unreliable and very biased sources.

aren't the IDF POV very biased too? so to have a true NPOV you need both? right?

    • For only the conspiracy theory to be up as it currently is, is unimpressive. Is someone else going to edit or is this up for grabs? - R

it is unimpressive that the "conspiracy theory" is constantly taken down!

No it is unimpressive that whoever keeps putting it up does not understand the NPOV that is necessary for Wikipedia articles.

Merge with Eldad Regev[edit]

I suggest this article is merged with Eldad Regev. An obvious re-write would be necessary and the merged article could be renamed Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev with a redirect from the two current article names. Practically, the merge should probably be done by moving the material in the shorter Eldad Regev article into this one, and then do the rename.

The two reasons why I think we should do so can be found in Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages:

  1. If there are two or more pages on related subjects that have a large overlap. Wikipedia is not a dictionary; there does not need to be a separate entry for every concept in the universe.
  2. If a page is very short and cannot or should not be expanded terribly much, it often makes sense to merge it with a page on a broader topic.

These two articles are largely overlapping, and they will not probably not be expand much beyond what they currently are. The final outcome for the two of them (hopefully positive) will eventually be added, but not much more - unless, of course, one of them (if the outcome is positive) one day becomes a very famous person, in which case we could unmerge them again. We should always look five-ten years ahead. Will it then make sense to have these two, short separate articles, instead of one longer, covering both of them? What do you think? Thomas Blomberg 16:27, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the articles should be merged. Both individuals are of the same event, and their stories, circumstances, and fate are unlikely to diverge. Sadena 17:05, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree too. The overwhelming subject is the abduction, not the individuals themselves. Merge away. Budgiekiller 21:10, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with the merging idea. Beeromatic 12:40, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I support merger, for the reasons stated by Thomas Blomberg. Kahuzi 16:29, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. - Yuval 19:08, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
I oppose, It's not like they are siamese twins; they are individuals. Their probably should be one article about their detainment instead, linked to by both articles. -- Kendrick7 19:37, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the Kendrick's suggestion. Theshibboleth 15:53, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the merge idea (not Kendrick7's idea). -HumanZoom 14:21, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, a merge sounds like a good idea. They can always be separated later if necessary. Publicus 19:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rank?[edit]

Does anyone know what Ehud's rank in the army might be? If so, please add. Same goes for Eldad Regev. Fedayee 19:28, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

After there was previously an agreement to merge the two into one article, I suggest they be merged into Zar'it-Shtula incident or an article under a new name, incorporating the information from the three articles, as this article isn't a biography about Ehud Goldwasser and focuses on one event, which is what that new article should be about. 84.108.245.222 19:13, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm always a fan of including biographical information about the soldiers, but that could still just as easily be done in Zar'it-Shtula incident. As long as no information is lost, I'm game. Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 09:54, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd prefer that the articles be kept separate. I think a short biographic article is both useful and justified. —mako 13:41, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, they are notable enough for their own pages. Epson291 (talk) 18:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also think the articles should be kept separate. As noted by Kendrick7 two sections above this one, "it's not like they are siamese twins", brothers, or business partners. As regards notability, both Goldwasser and Regev have been the subject of significant coverage, and their abduction was the casus belli of the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict. –Black Falcon (Talk) 18:25, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

South African?[edit]

Apparently he's also a South African Citizen. I came across this in an article on IOL.com. The article was primarily about his family and parents, who still reside in Durban. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.222.6.200 (talk) 22:08, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hizbullah Quote[edit]

Removed since the story is hurtful enough without including bombastic propaganda quotes from Goldwasser's killers.

Minor Propaganda Point[edit]

"An Israeli Merkava Mk. II tank was damaged by a 200 kg improvised explosive device, while attempting to give pursuit, killing all four crewmembers." I find it hard to believe that a Merkava, a well designed tank with a high crew member survivability factor, was merely "damaged" in an attack that killed all four crew members. Oh snap, here is what the linked to article actually says: "The Merkava-2 tank was destroyed by a mine packed with between 200 and 300 kilometers of explosives." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.55.174.192 (talk) 01:08, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
