The third Oil Kings

Given it is all but certain that the new WHL team will also be called the Oil Kings, I feel that the new team should be treated as completely distinct from these two franchises, and should have a separate article. My intention when the official announcement is made is to move this article to Edmonton Oil Kings (WCHL) then have an admin move Edmonton WHL to this page. Would there be any objections to this? Bob Green

Ownership group

The Edmonton Investors Group no longer owns the Edmonton Oilers, as Daryl Katz was announced as new owner of the team on July 2nd, 2008. Oil Kings logo, Colors Changed

As of October 28th, 2018, user:Rickyharder has changed the Oil Kings logo from the Crown logo to the black and neon green head logo, as well as changing the team's colors. Where is the verification that this is 100% a logo change? Although the team uses the alternate logo on its website and social media, the 2018-19 WHL Media Guide still lists this logo and the colors as alternate logos.

The logo update seems legitimate to me. A team changing colours on its web site and social media is a good clue. Media guides inthe Canadian Hockey League are published before the season, and are not updated until the following year. Flibirigit (talk) 16:12, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

I still disagree, especially when the old logo is still predominately featured on the other 21 teams' websites. And while it can be argued the other teams may not know or have the logo, I argue that when Everett switched to the English style "E" for their 15th Anniversary last season, most teams changed the logo for that, and have since switched back to the bear head. I don't think the entry should be changed unless it's full-on commitment to the new look, especially when they still list their old logo/jerseys to be in use in high frequency on their jersey schedule calendar. The new logo may be used on their social media, but I've seen many teams use an alternate logo as the team's icons for social and websites. I'll concede to these beliefs if the Oil Kings flat out say "it's a new era, this is our new logo" but until then I'm looking at this year as a transition year to the new logo but still think the crown should be the primary on this entry until at least next season.

Edit: If you look under the "2018-19 Holiday Package" section of the website, they advertise that the package includes a "3rd Logo Toque" and includes the head logo. That sounds to me as it's considered (at this point) an alternate logo, not primary. Hawkahaulic08 (talk) 19:48, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

• A lot of teams do fancy wordmarks, alternate logos, alternate colorizations on websites and the like. A change is a good clue, perhaps, but it doesn't constitute an official announcement of a changed logo. Has there been one? Ravenswing 00:18, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

• The only thing I've found was they announced a new shoulder patch logo of a lion with EOK in its mouth and a crown on its head for both the Blue/Red jerseys and the Black/Green. That was on August 21, 2018. The only other thing I've found in regards to the King's Head Black/Green logo is a post that the Oil Kings announced on January 23, 2017 that they were introducing "a new ‘away’ version of their third jersey." • All reliable sources that I've seen refer to the neon green logo as the third jersey or third logo. Until a formal re-branding is announced by the team, I would suggest that the crown logo and colour scheme is retained at the primary logo/colour scheme. – Nurmsook! ^talk... 21:40, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

• ***Update April 2019*** I've changed the article to show the red/blue/yellow as main, and the neon green as alternate. As of today, both oilkings.ca and the Oil Kings twitter, as well as whl.ca, use this logo, not the green.
