Pre-publication notes[edit]

Notes made during the drafting of the article are available at Talk:Eddington experiment/Archive 1. Many of the ideas there have not been followed up, but might be useful for further editing. Carcharoth (talk) 13:36, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Other articles[edit]

A note that the main content on the eclipse and the experiment now appear to be at the following three locations:

Some work is needed to co-ordinate the content at these locations. Carcharoth (talk) 14:24, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Recent articles[edit]

Some may be of use:

  • Should the article not say something about the observations at Sobral? There seems to be a monument in Sobral that honors the eclipse. See an image from the Portuguese Wikipedia: pt:Ficheiro:Alberteinsteinuva.jpg, which is featured in pt:Sobral (Ceará) and pt:Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú.
  • Some mention of the Eddington experiment should go into our article on Hyades (star cluster). EdJohnston (talk) 00:03, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • @EdJohnston: thanks for the pointer to that. Yes, that should go in. I had intended to include a fuller description of the Sobral part of the expeditions, but hadn't got to it yet. Do add something if you want to do so. There is a lot more that could be done here. I managed to completely miss a whole website about the eclipse and commemorations of the 100th anniversary, see Eclipse 1919. Doh! Carcharoth (talk) 23:38, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

pt:Museu do Eclipse as well. Really need someone familiar with the Brazilian (Portuguese) sources and websites. Carcharoth (talk) 23:48, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@EdJohnston and Carcharoth: I'm four years later, but I have just added a expansion on the Sobral expedition. The "Revista Pesquisa" sources are translations from the Portuguese versions. I suspect that, between modern and old sources, it should be possible to expand that section into a full article. Erick Soares3 (talk) 13:24, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have just found out that the National Observatory has produced 3 Portuguese language and 1 Portuguese/English language free ebooks on the eclipse observations. I'm curious enough to read it, and it may give a good amount of information to create a full article about that specific expedition (it could be interesting to contextualize the situation of Brazilian and LA astronomy at the time). Thank you Erick Soares for adding this material and that below! I will try and take a closer look later (I don't have much time these days, but it is exciting to see new work on this article). Carcharoth (talk) 00:20, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Erick Soares3 (talk) 14:59, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sources on Sobral[edit]

I have found a bunch of Portuguese language articles about the Sobral observations and I'm compiling everything here to organize and, in the future, add it in the article.

Papers about the Sobral observations;

  • Silva Júnior, Renaldo Nicácio da; Barboza, Christina Helena da Motta (September 2020). "História e memória de vidro: as fotografias brasileiras do eclipse de 1919 em Sobral" [History and memory on glass: the Brazilian photographs of the 1919 eclipse in Sobral]. História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos (in Brazilian Portuguese). 27 (3): 983–1000. doi:10.1590/s0104-59702020000400015. ISSN 1678-4758.

Books on the subject;

  • Bozi, Alba Lívia Tallon; Pessoa, Marília, eds. (2019). O Eclipse de 1919 [The Eclipse of 1919] (PDF) (in Brazilian Portuguese and American English). Rio de Janeiro: Observatório Nacional. p. 256. ISBN 978-85-99926-10-9.
