Adjustment to the GDP per capita

I've made the adjustments to the GDP per capita, because the data on the population of Serbia per new census from 2011 is not the one that the IMF has (in other words, IMF has outdated data). IMF thinks we have 7.5M people, while in fact we have 7.1M. The irony.

Kosovo

Just a little mathematics. Serbia has got (without Kosovo) 7,500,000 people, which means, counting in US dollars from 2005, that the real GDP per capita is over 4500. It is still very low, but not 3180, as stated as projection for 2005, on this page.

I think it would be nice if there is a narrative section about the makeup of the Serbian economy (main industries, recent economic developments, etc.).

GDP (PPP)

The purchasing power parities (PPP) value of the GDP using the Geary-Khamis dollars instead of USD. For further explanation, please read The Geary-Khamis dollar article.

-The Geary-Khamis dollar, also known as the international dollar, is a hypothetical unit of currency that has the same purchasing power that the U.S. dollar had in the United States at a given point in time. It is based on the twin concepts of purchasing power parities (PPP) of currencies and the international average prices of commodities. It shows how much a local currency unit is worth within the country's borders. For example, comparing per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of various countries in international dollars, rather than based simply on exchange rates, provides a more valid measure to compare standards of living. It was proposed by Roy C. Geary in 1958 and developed by Salem Hanna Khamis in 1970 to 1972. Gaston28 (talk) 22:21, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Average salary in Serbia

In Serbia gross salary is only the basis for calculating net salary (net pay), contributions (retirement, medicare...) and tax.

Gross salary is:

  • subtracted for retirement, medicare and unemployment compulsory insurance - 17,9% (worker's part)
  • subtracted for tax - 12%

Net salary = 70.1% of Gross salary (the amount of money which someone actually takes home after all of the deductions)

In addition, the employer must pay 17.9% for contributions (retirement, medicare...). This means that each month the employer pays additional 17.9% of gross salary for contributions, which gives a Total cost for the employer (excluding paid vacation...).

  • Gross salary = the basis for calculating
  • Net salary = 70.1% of Gross salary
  • Total cost for the employer = Gross salary + 17.9% of Gross salary... each month excluding paid vacation...

In practice, the average national net salary is slightly higher than those 70.1% of gross salary. That's because there are exemption from payment of contributions by Article 45 45a and 45b of the Serbian Law on Contributions for Social Security. For example, the average March 2010 net salary was 72.1% of gross salary [1]. Representatives of Serbian government have been announced several times in the media that they have intentions to bring some changes in this system. There were talks about reduction of taxes for lower salaries, the increase of taxes for higher salaries, then the expansion of exemption from payment of contributions et cetera. There is no way that awerage net salary is 463$ ,dolar is 83 dinars and awarage salary is 34500 dinars which make it 415$. This article needs NPOV, all sources are state institution, for purpose of propaganda. Just an example: paying of taxes on gross salary does not mean that net salary is paid-up. The Serbian average salaries data is published by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia periodically, and this data are expressed exclusively in Serbian dinars (RSD). Prior to publication on the English language Wikipedia all data are converted into U.S. dollars.

The average Serbian salary in April 2010 expressed in Serbian dinars (RSD) by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia was converted into U.S. dollars (USD) based on 04/30/2010 Interbank exchange rate. The average Serbian salary in May 2010 was converted into U.S. dollars (USD) based on 05/31/2010 Interbank exchange rate...


April 2010 [[1]]

  • Average gross salary was = 48525 RSD
  • Average net salary was = 34952 RSD
  • Interbank rate exchange rate USD/RSD on 04/30/2010 was = 75.42

So in USD average (April 2010) salaries in Serbia was:

  • Average gross salary $643.39 (April 2010)
  • Average net salary $463.43 (April 2010)

May 2010 [[2]]

  • Average gross salary was = 46454 RSD
  • Average net salary was = 33463 RSD
  • Interbank rate exchange rate USD/RSD on 05/31/2010 was = 83.99

So in USD average (May 2010) salaries in Serbia was:

  • Average gross salary $553.08 (May 2010)
  • Average net salary $398.41 (May 2010)

Energy in Serbia

If someone could review the sentence below please, which I'd suggest is included at the end of the Renewable Energy point under the Energy in Serbia section.

  • In June 2013 the Serbian government announced an action plan to meet 27 per cent of gross final energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020.[1] [2] Done

Foreign Direct Investment

The following point about the recent Abu Dhabi loan agreement could be added under the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) section:

  • In March 2014 the Abu Dhabi's Department of Finance (DoF) signed a loan agreement with the Government of Serbia which totalled $1 billion.[3]

External Trade

  • The value of bilateral trade between Serbia and Germany reached a total of €2.78 billion in 2003, a historical record for the two nations.[4] Done

Agriculture

  • Agriculture accounts for 10% of Serbia's GDP and almost one forth of the country's total exports, with around 20% of the population working in the industry.[5]

  • Comment - I reviewed proposed additional content. It is completely uncontroversial and supported with reliable sources. Actually the proposed assertions are sky is blue assertions so I doubt anybody will have anything against their addition. I will add them to the article shortly. error in external trade

The statistic for external trade in 2013 is for only the first three quarters of the year, not the full year, if I am not mistaken. Yet the article makes it seem like it is for the entire year. That should be fixed in one way or another. (Lilicneiu (talk) 06:54, 1 April 2014 (UTC)).

Orphaned references in Economy of Serbia

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Economy of Serbia's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Q1/Q2 2020 in infobox

User Luka Djordjevic55 keeps adding Q1 and Q2 2020 GDP growth to the infobox, which they probably reference to [3], judging from their edit summaries. The title of the article is Kovačević: Rast BDP-a u prvom kvartalu plus pet, u drugom 1 odsto, which roughly translates as Kovačević: GDP growth +5% in Q1, +1% in Q2. Well, fine, I mean it's one politician talking about the GDP, but that's not the main issue here. For some reason, this source also has some more text below the title (amazing, I know). For example, immediately below the title:

Rast BDP-a Srbije u prvom kvartalu ove godine mogao bi da bude plus pet odsto, a u drugom, od aprila do juna, prema svim sadašnjim pokazateljima jedan odsto

which roughly translates as (emphasis mine):

Serbia's GDP growth in Q1 of this year could be +5%, while Q2, from April to June, according to current data, 1%

So no, it's not +5% for Q1, and definitely not +1% for Q2 (though I believe the user has given up on adding Q2). Please don't add that content without a consensus, as you've been reverted multiple times. byteflush Talk 01:44, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
