Untitled[edit]

While I'm hesitant to consider the existing information 'inaccurate,' since it cites a legit article, it's inconsistent with what I've come to understand as the 'definition of e-governance' which is, simply, the process in which governmental organizations utilize technology primarily to facilitate communication, either bidirectionally or unidirectionally, with the public, but also extending into the government's adoption of technology to facilitate workflow, records management, internal communication, and other business practices. It is often used to aid compliance with transparency or "sunshine" laws as well as to improve efficiency adn/or accountability or to save resources (paper, storage space, money.)

I especially like the last one which, while in irritating format, provides: 

"Even though there were several definitions, the e-government term was retained as being the optimal utilization of ICTs within the framework of good governance to ensure effective interaction between the various arms of government and its environment (citizens, civil society, private sector...)."

Merging[edit]

I've gone ahead and merged the sub-articles listed at the top of this page into the article. Not 100% sure that was the only possible choice, but decided to just be BOLD about it, as the sub-topics were rather small, and it makes it easier to digest as a more unified as a topic. Strongly disagree with merges. I am 100% sure that they were not the only possible choices. Government-to-Government, Government-to-employees, Government-to-business, and government-to-citizens are all terms that have to do with the flow of information regardless of whether it's online or electronic. This implies to anyone looking up these terms that the only way to achieve any of the above is through electronic media and more specifically through telecommunication, but not through print or meeting in person. This is WP:BIAS and borderline WP:PROMO of one particular way of governing. If anything, it would make more sense to redirect these terms to governance. No real difference between e-governance and e-government?[edit]

The only differences seem to be in the way these articles define the terms on wikipedia and not in established meaning in the rest of the world. Oicumayberight (talk) 17:30, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]


May I offer a simple solution to the basic issue? Government is a relatively undisputed term. Governance by contrast goes beyond the actions of any govt, and includes the actions of civil society and other players. In this, I am following my own experience and that of authors like James Rosenau with such terms as global governance and good governance, having published on multilevel governance, as I too come from this tradition: "the term governance was re-minted as recently as the 1990s by economists and political scientists", governance

And the fact that the only reference on that page to e-government is a photo of someone sitting at a computer is a lack in itself.

while none seems to be disputing the difference between governance and government, I wonder why one could argue that egovernement and egovernance are the same thing.

egovernance by essence applies the principle of governance using digital technologies of one form or another. So, as a starting point, should the definition of egovernance not link up with that of governance, as stated in Wikipedia. As indicated in a previous comments, governance can apply to all forms of institutions and organisations.

"Governance is the way the rules, norms and actions are structured, sustained, regulated and held accountable. The degree of formality depends on the internal rules of a given organization and, externally, with its business partners. As such, governance may take many forms, driven by many different motivations and with many different results.
