Merge of dynamic pricing with time-based pricing[edit]

It seems that all variable pricing strategies are by definition dynamic, whether they be surge, demand or time-based. I created two redirects for the first two terms, and think we could merge the modest time-based pricing article into the time-based pricing subsection of the dynamic pricing article, and add a simple redirect for the term. That might work. The article might get a bit big, though. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 01:05, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with yield management[edit]

Oppose merge with variable pricing

Dynamic pricing is basically the same as yield management. It is a system used in travel, hotels and also in some B2B services such as the sale of TV air time to advertisers.

Yield management is more than just a pricing tactic - it is an integrated system of monitoring demand and matching this with capacity to maximise yield by adjusting prices. It requires extensive databases and a systems approach. Dynamic pricing is primarily used with perishable services where capacity is constrained. In the consumer market, the process is more likely to be known as yield management while in business to business contexts, it is more likely to be called dynamic pricing.

Variable pricing, on the other hand, (also known as price discrimination, flexible pricing etc) does not require the same computing power. Managers can vary prices based on intuition, for example. Variable pricing can be used in a wide variety of contexts and is normally based on quantity discounts, loyalty discounts or the seller's perceptions of the customer's ability to pay. Closing the merge with Variable pricing given the opposition and lack of support. Klbrain (talk) 19:36, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Relocation of Dynamic pricing in air transportation and ride share services[edit]

Seems like both sub sections provided under "History of Dynamic Pricing", "Dynamic pricing in air transportation" and "Dynamic pricing in ride share services" fit into the section below quite nicely. Thoughts on redirecting these two sub sections into "Transportation"? Leatus902 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 11:08, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
