Name Change / Recent Happenings[edit]

I'm a big fan of his work in Chasing Amy and every now and then, I check Wikipedia and all around the internet to see if I can find anything on him. Recently, with the documentary Chasing Chasing Amy making its rounds in the film festival circuit, "Dwight" has resurfaced - but now going by the name Mustafa Obafemi.

The director of Chasing Chasing Amy, Sav Rodgers, has talked a little about Mr. Obafemi in a few interviews - including podcasts. Sav Rodgers reached out to him about appearing in the documentary, but he politely declined. He has still supported the documentary, befriending the director and even appearing at a screening at the Tribeca Film Festival. Obafemi gave a short interview on the red carpet with Unger the Radar just two months ago where he appeared very happy and healthy. In talking about Chasing Amy, when the interviewer mentioned that he was "part of that fire" that sparked this documentary he said about his involvement in Chasing Amy, "I'm honored to even know that, to believe that we had that kind of effect on people. And the characters and the script - and the whole vision for that movie and what it's done for so many people..." and "that character (referring to Hooper X) has had such an impact on our culture and I want to thank Kevin for hiring me at that time."

He continued to reiterate his support for the documentary director, Sav Rodgers.

In May 2023, on his Tik Tok account, Mustafa Obafemi posted his new headshots and indicated that he was going to get back into acting after making a promise to his mother before she passed away.

In April 2023, he appeared on stage at a talkback following a screening of the film Party Girl after Parker Posey invited him on stage.

Here's a link to the Unger the Radar red carpet interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjgK9NDro1Q&t=669s His social media accounts are under Mustafa Obafemi or KingMustafaObafemi. Doing a quick Google of his new name and Sav Rodgers will turn up a couple of mentions of him.

I think his character in Chasing Amy is very important and I've always been delighted when I've caught him in other things. It's great to know he's alive and well and I hope to see more from him in the future. I don't really edit Wikipedia articles, so I'd like to leave this for someone that knows what they're doing. 24.112.119.105 (talk) 04:42, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I made some small updates re: the above and also changed the language on his recent employment since this is now confirmed. I think we may need to wait a bit to see what the main title of the article should be - unless he changes his name with SAG he will still be credited under his birth name in any upcoming films, and obviously acting is the reason he is known. Until the strike is resolved and he starts working again, we don't know how that will play out. Predestiprestidigitation (talk) 11:37, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
