Criticism[edit]

I tagged the section "Criticism" with {{BLP unsourced section}}, please read and address the hidden comments added at the same time before removing the tag. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 19:11, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removed tag because the main reference in the section is to a CNet article, which is not a blog, not self published, and so far as I can see is a reliable secondary source, contradicting the assertion in the hidden comments that the references are all poor quality. The other references are primary sources, which while they might be unacceptable if relied upon exclusively, they merely support the CNet secondary source. 'No Evil' license[edit]

Has anyone of you with the slightest legal understanding ever watched the Youtube video of Crockford's talk? He is obviously aware that his license is proprietary to the point the it makes any usage of his software potentially illegal. Otherwise IBM would not frequently ask him for a license to use his software. Crockford is not stupid and, given his past as CEO, he understands the legal reason for IBM's repeated requests full well. He is also well aware that his letter to IBM constitutes a legally binding license grant for usage of his software, as is apparent from his careful naming of IBM, its customers and partners (which are clearly defined legal terms) and despite his adding of the nonsense-term "minions", which has no legal meaning. He knows that open source projects mistook his license for an open source license but he thinks this is their own fault and mocks them as whiners. Just remind yourself that as a former CEO he is aware of the legal implications of what he is describing and watch the section of the video: his smug and condescending tone is very telling. -- 77.20.94.233 (talk) 18:31, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, no. The "no evil" clause is not legally enforceable and in the event of a legal conflict, it'd be ignored but the remainder of the license terms would still apply.
