Trivia: Nintendo 64 (ad) in Donkey Kong 3[edit]

K3[edit]

Are we sure the area known as K3 is a reference to the mountain K3? I think it is much more likely to be a play off the second tallest mountain, K2. In the instruction manual there is a picture of the Brothers Bear, and it looked like one of them was smoking a cigar. Is this true?

Virtual Console Release[edit]

According to the Statement Rare released awhile back about the status of it's games on the Virtual Console, it said "Beyond the DKC games we don’t have anything in the pipeline at the moment". Animals[edit]

Shouldn't it be mentioned that they don't actually ride the animals as with the previous games, but (from what I recall while playing the game) actually turn into them? 67.142.130.31 (talk) 10:20, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're thinking of DKC2. In DKC3, it's always a barrel change. In DKC1, it was always a crate, in DKC2, it can be either. Digifiend (talk) 10:32, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, it only happens 2 or 3 times but there ARE some animal crates. I always thought it a bit odd that in DKC 2, getting a Squawks barrel or crate effectively did the same thing , because when he was carrying you, getting hit resulted in losing a Kong as opposed to him 'running off'. 82.32.11.95 (talk) 22:07, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
...I'm unsure if you've ever even played the game, but in the very first level of DKC3, you ride an animal. The first transformation happens on the fifth level (interestingly with the same animal, Ellie). Salvidrim! 22:14, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Donkey Kong Country 4?[edit]

Someone put in this article saying that there were rumors about a game being called Donkey Kong Country 4, even though it wasn't really confirmed. We know that Donkey Kong 64 is the direct sequel to Donkey Kong Country 3, and that DK64 was codenamed Donkey Kong Country 64. --PJ Pete 02:01, 24 May 2009

Being an animator myself, I think this could be shuffled a bit more... It now says "Pre-rendered images are modelled as 3D images", but the order is off here, as the only modelling involved is for the 3D models that are later animated. Then this animation is rendered into images (the "pre-rendered" images), that are turned into 2D sprites... So I'd say "Pre-rendered 3D animations are turned into 2D sprites" or some such. The source says "everything was modeled in 3D before being transformed into 2D sprites and background layers". I don't think the reviewer was well versed in the way this game was created, so I think I'll go with the "Pre-rendered 3D animations are turned into 2D sprites" suggestion. I myself am not well versed in how the process is done. If I recall correctly I think the designed each frame of a sprite in 3D, and then converted it into a 2D image that could fit on the SNES, therefore giving it an illusion of advanced graphics.
