Article creation

Never played this game. I was interested in it when I read the KLOV entry, and went here to find more. Alas, no article :(. So I decided to get the ball rolling. --Headcase 07:38, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've always heard of it as GB Donkey Kong, with Donkey Kong '94 just being an alternate name. Spyke 22:52, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Super Gameboy

'Conveyor Belt' level

  • Cool! I wasn't aware of that. Even Nintendo Power was giving out that incorrect info when the Game Boy version first came out, which is why I put it up (figured Nintendo wouldn't have incorrect info about their own product). - EmiOfBrie 22:13, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
    • I think Nintendo Power probably only took the NES version in consideration when they wrote that statement, seeing how its the only version of the game actually produced in-house by Nintendo (as opposed to licensed to another company like the ColecoVision version). "Game Boy game" vs. "handheld game"

The "handheld game" disambiguation is a lot more confusing than merely identifying that its a Game Boy game. For starters, the term "handheld game" isn't even the proper term to use, since its more often used to refer to those cheap self-contained handheld games Tiger Electronics used to release than an actual game for a portable game platform. The term "portable game" is much better. An article about a "Donkey Kong handheld game" could easily just be an article about the Game & Watch version released during the 80's.

Secondly, the game was only released on one platform. If it gets ported to another, then we do the disambiguation. But doing it when there's no point to is needless speculating. For all we know, there could be a Nintendo DS game also titled Donkey Kong that might as well be a completely different game from the arcade and GB versions. *facepalm* Why do people say that because it's only on one platform, it shouldn't be called (handheld game)? So because there's no need for extra disambiguation, the logical step is to have extra disambiguation? If the original FF was only on the NES, would you demand it be called Final Fantasy (NES)? - A Link to the Past (talk) 17:33, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
That's a very weak argument. The only reason why this article is called "Donkey Kong (Game Boy)" in the first place is because there's already a video game called "Donkey Kong" for the arcade and NES, which this Game Boy version happens to be a remake of. Otherwise, it would just be titled "Donkey Kong (video game)". The "handheld game" disambiguation is just a very vague and confusing one (not to mention there's a GBA version of the NES Donkey Kong, which itself is also a portable game by definition). There's no need to use the platform. The confusion involved is very minimal - there isn't even an article on the Classic NES version anyway, and didn't even do very well. (handheld game) is much less vague than (video game), and since handheld game is an applied term in the industry just as (video game), there's no good rational to not use it. The only entries that are handheld games are an old, obscure G&W game and a handheld port of the original DK that, like all other Classic NES games with a few exceptions (Zelda being one), bombed. This was, however, a considerable success, and the only handheld DK title of any note. - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
