Timing[edit]

This quote comes from your article on Dodworth, but similar wording is employed for many articles about villages and towns throughout the UK.

"Dodworth is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it has a population of 5,742,[1] increasing to 9,777 at the 2011 Census.[2]"

As I write it is the end of 2016. Therefore, the two population figures given both refer to the past and the past tense should have been used in the second sentence. Secondly, why use "historically" for an event that happened as recently as 1974? "Historically" has its place when speaking of a change that occurred at some imprecise time a long time ago, but not for an event which happened less than 50 years ago and can be precisely dated.

Please attempt to find a proper balance between geographical and historical facts about places. The existence of a place in the Domesday book certainly infers its longevity, but what made it continue to tick for the almost 1,000 years since? The continuing social history of a locality is important--and it can be interesting.
