Ethnic groups

Surely Muslims shouldn't be an ethnic group as its a religion? One could be Albanian AND Muslim, or Serb AND Muslim. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Talltim (talkcontribs) 15:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC).

Serb AND Muslim... hardly. Read up on Muslims by nationality, I'll fix the link. Duja 15:37, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
OK I stand corrected :) Thanks for linking into the relevant Ethnic group articles. Mind you its still confuing (but not a problem for Wiki), you could get Christian (religion) Muslims (Ethnic group)! Talltim 10:22, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Ah, it's confusing per se :-). Actually, today it's more like census category than an ethnic group in strict sense, thus "(ethnic group)" disambigutor would be a bit moot. Duja 12:59, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

RfC: Can we include the local names of the towns as well?

Can we not include the local names in addition to the serbian names in Kosovo articles? It is common place on the official Kosovo article. Yet, user User:Tadija is reverting all my additions. James Michael DuPont 10:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

I would suggest that Albanian language names (or Kosovan) names could be given alongside the Serbian ones. The status of Kosovo is inevitably controversial. The NPOV principle implies using both. If User:Tadija is reverting this, he is a vandal and should be blocked. WP is not the right place for resolving conflicts over Serbian and Kosovan nationalism. And James, please learn to sign your contributions to talk pages with ~~~~, which automatically generates your name and the date etc. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:24, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree. Kosovan and Serbian names should be given. Dincher (talk) 22:04, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Recent move

There was no consensus for this recent move, "Peć" is the common English language name for the town/ district. It will always be the common English language name due to the region's association with the Patriarchate of Peć. This article should be moved back until there is an agreement to move the page and it should be done in line with WP:RM. IJA (talk) 22:55, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

I would disagree with you on one point - the Patriarchate of Peć only influences the WP:COMMONNAME of the Patriarchate of Peć. Any other place's name may vary, depending on what sources say; and this particular article is about a local government division, rather than a parish or bishopric. bobrayner (talk) 23:18, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
Although the most recent move seems to have been an improvement, because it was previously at Rajoni i Pejës! bobrayner (talk) 23:19, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Pejë DistrictPeć District – The District is named after the city. The article about the city is located at "Peć", so we should be consistent and move this article to "Peć District". If the article about the city ever moves to a new name, I have no objection to also move this article, but the current situations rises confusion. Vanjagenije (talk) 19:50, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Procedural close. There is a preexisting open move request involving this page at Talk:Peć; the template should already have informed editors here of the proposal, but it did not due to a formatting error. Please contribute to the open move discussion before creating a new one. After that request closes, if you would like to propose this change, please feel free to do so. Also, please note that I am an uninvolved editor. My intention here is not to prevent you from having the article moved to Peć District. Dekimasuよ! 20:22, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Comment there is no hard reason for the two to have the same name. The world doesn't work that way, since there are many regions in the world where the central city and the containing district have different names that are also alternate names for each other. However, I do see the argument for making it consistent with the city, however, the title of the article for the city itself is not hard set, since a no consensus outcome just resulted there at talk:Peć. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 22:34, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose this region is in Kosovo, not Serbia, so it should use Albanian, not Serbian, as Serbia no longer rules this region -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 22:34, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support "District of Peć" - Rather than "Peć District" per all the other articles which are "District of X". IJA (talk) 01:04, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support "District of Peć" – consistency with Peć. 23 editor (talk) 03:45, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support Peć is a familiar term in entire Balkans, Pejë only in Albania. --ChumleeS (talk) 11:52, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support "District of Peć" – consistency with Peć. --Ąnαșταη (ταlκ) 12:21, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Pejë district is in Kosovo. Kosovo is not Serbia. It is, therefore, unclear why we should move to the Serbian name of something that isn't Serbian. Although, given the lack of sources, I'd argue that we're better off just redirecting it to the page on the municipality. Sources very much emphasise municipalities rather than "districts", and I live in hope that one day our articles on human geography in the Balkans will converge on what the sources say. bobrayner (talk) 13:37, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose Pejë is in Kosovo.Kosov is not Serbia.I provided sources how Pejë it spelld in english.Pec is a serbian word and its unclear why we should move this name to the this page beacause this is Enlgish Wikipedia not Serbian Wikipedia. I provided neutral sources and how the town name is spelled well in Enlgish, also there is no consensus that have been reached in the pec page where "Peja name in English on reliable sources is more in favor that the "Pec" name.Lindi29 (talk) 15:37, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support Per the article title policy:

Consistency – The title is consistent with the pattern of similar articles' titles.

Since the city article is at Peċ, this article should be consistent with it. --Local hero talk 16:03, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support "District of Peć" per user:IJA and user:Local hero. Arguments for oppose based on the location or the substance of Kosovo being different from Serbia are moot. According to the article about it, Kosovo has two official languages - one of them is Serbian i.e. Serbo-Croatian. --biblbroks (talk)]] 00:47, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Oppose The matter of the fact is very simple , the town is internationally recognized as Peja , and there is a plethora of sources backing this up . Keeping Peć ( which is not even written in latin characters ) is a nationalistic WP:POV pushing , and actually misleading , inaccurate , and totally against the fundamental 'laws' of Wikipedia . Unless you have any valid argument as to why this page should not be moved , then this page should be moved asap for the simple reason that the town is recognized internationally ( and also domestically ) as Peja .Gjirokastra15 (talk) 07:29, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Renaming

As the article of the seat city, Peja was recently changed from Peć to Peja, this article should also be renamed.--Lorik17 (talk) 19:59, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

This is an uncontroversial, technical request.--Maleschreiber (talk) 22:33, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
