At least as far back as the 80s[edit]

Donald and Beverly Seamans were well known in Marblehead, MA circles for their Fourth of July parties at their harborfront house, and the centerpiece was always the dishwasher salmon. Beverly wrapped the fish (whole!) in cheesecloth, not tin foil, and vermouth was often added to the soap dispenser. The fish would be put on the top rack and put through a cycle or two. She would then finish it with dill sauce and cucumber slices with a pimento olive slice for the eye.

1950s Origins[edit]

I saw a TV cookery programme that said Dishwasher Salmon was originally invented in 1950s in Ohio, USA, and that in Montana and Alaska they made a variant called Dishwasher Trout.

They said Dishwasher Salmon was "en vogue" in the 1970s but declined in popularity since, and was usually served in northern US states (such as Ohio and Montana) with Ranch dressing or with butter and herbs, and in southern states (they mentioned Texas and Florida) with hot pepper sauce. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.184.97.154 (talk) 20:15, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment. I've been unable to find any reliable sources predating the ones already in the article, but if you're able to find something, please do post it here.
