Dhani word[edit]

In Hindi, Dhani is pronounce Dhaa-Knee, which is correct for two notes on Indian musical scale, but the Hindi word for rich is just Dhani, not Dhaa-Knee as mentioned in this article. Correction made. Another interesting meaning of word Dhaani in Hindi is the colour of 'Dhaan', Young paddy (rice) saplings, which is light green, the meaning used in a song of Pakistani Band Strings - Dhaani [1]. Whatever his name might mean, hope he sings just as well as the one, who gave that name to him. :) (Ekabhishek (talk) 18:04, 4 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Dhaa-Knee? What is Dhaa? Is it like Donny or Danny? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.149.131.179 (talk) 05:50, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, maybe one day I'll find which book or interview the quote came from, but George specifically said once that he used the name "Dhani" because he understood it to mean "gift" in Sanskrit, which is, not surprisingly, what he felt about having a son with Olivia, later in life than his former bandmates, and after the turmoils of the mid-70s. I don't know Sanskrit or Hindi, but since "deh" is a common root for "give" in most Indo European languages ([2]) it's plausible. 150.204.217.23 (talk) 11:07, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article inconsistency[edit]

"George stayed young and [the other musicians performing] got old..." In this article, the quote is attributed to Dhani's mother. In the George Harrison article, it is Paul McCartney who says this. Anyone have sources for the quote ? Jcam 19:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was Paul McCartney. The source is the DVD for Concert for George, a tribute show that was put on after George's death. --Aguerriero (talk) 20:05, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That was quick. Thanx. Jcam 20:35, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it was Paul, but he was quoting Olivia. The exact quote from Paul is, "Olivia just said that with Dhani up on stage it looks like George stayed young and the rest of us got old." (from the CGF DVD)

Query/Non-Sequitur[edit]

I have a question...I understand that Dhani's name is conventionally pronounced as "Danny", but according to Indian pronunciation, it would be "(hard) thäh nee". So, are we to take his name as something that was inspired by Samskrtam syllables (that is what the swara are), rather than a Sanskrit noun by itself (dhani being a wise, learned invidual)?

Admittedly, I have some vested pedantic interest in this, since my father's family and ancestors were noted avadhanis. Firebreeze 07:14, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"George were stayed young and thems other musicians performin done got old."[edit]

I'm fairly sure Paul doesn't say that, seems like vandalism but I'll have to check. -MichiganCharms 18:24, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At the end of the Concert for George, just after Dhani Harrison spoke before the finale led by Joe Brown, Paul McCartney briefly took the microphone to tell the audience, "Olivia said that, 'With Dhani up on stage, it looks like George stayed young and we all got old.' " It was all very sweet. Verify on the concert DVD, a clip is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcphNHjwfGA -- and enjoy "I'll See You In My Dreams" Flora b 1 22:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Graduating[edit]

"After graduating from university, Harrison pursued a career as an aerodynamicist. However, this career turned out not to suit him as well as he had hoped, and he is following in his father's footsteps as a professional musician.[citation needed]"

He graduated? I thought he dropped out from Brown University because he didn't want to go into aerodynamics after all (I mean, who would want to?). He went into it because he didn't want to be a musician, but eventually he gave into his musical genes. Also, this has a "citation needed" tag, giving me the idea that this fact is wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grade4 (talkcontribs) 22:54, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about dropping out, but he mentions going to Brown, and has a huge interest in computers from the programming end in this interview: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/dhani-harrison-on-his-new-album-his-father-and-the-beatles-rock-band-207984 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.70.51.235 (talk) 00:30, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He didn't drop out, he finished his Bachelors (in Industrial Design and Physics, with a personal interest in Aerodynamics), but I have removed the year of graduation because there are conflicting citations for 2001 and 2002. I know it to be 2001 because he was with McLaren at the time of his father's death, but I cannot provide a definitive citation. Brown University themselves have claimed both years in different locations. Wasechun tashunka (talk) 21:50, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Beatles RfC[edit]

You are invited to participate in an RfC at Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/The Beatles on the issue of capitalising the definite article when mentioning that band's name in running prose. This long-standing dispute is the subject of an open mediation case and we are requesting your help with determining the current community consensus. Thank you for your time.
