Dawn of the Dead?

I've heard that this album is based on the 1978 Zombie Movie Dawn of the Dead, it certainly has references but I don't think it is completely based on the film. Could someone please tell me/find out?

Constant Genre-Warring

This is really getting ridiculous. Every editor seems to have their own combination of genres to replace the previous ones. It happens on a day-to-day basis, and this album has been out for five years. It needs to stop. So, per WP:BB I'm going to cut the genre down to simply "alternative hip-hop" so there's a version to revert to whenever someone inevitably clutters the infobox up with their own interpretations. If anyone has serious suggestions for what the genre should be listed as, please bring them up here, on the talk page instead of edit warring over something so arbitrary and unimportant. --Friginator (talk) 20:43, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

No one is claiming the album is, as you said, just alternative hip-hop, but the songs on the album generally fall under that genre (or subgenre) more than others. Just as an example, Every Planet We Reach is Dead was intended to in part pay tribute to classic soul music, with Ike Turner as a main influence. O Green World has almost no guitar at all. Both tracks you mentioned are percussion-heavy and beat-oriented, with various techno sound effects accompanying heavy drumbeats. These are just two examples of songs that could be argued over endlessly. But just because some songs count as alternative rock doesn't mean we should open the article up to more controversy by trying to include every genre that an individual song might count towards. Not to mention that changing the genre of this album (or most any album) should be one of the lowest priorities on Wikipedia. If this is really in the interest of improving the encyclopedia, and not nitpicking because you disagree with a generalization, then there are many, many better things you could do to improve the site as a whole. Insistently replacing and adding different genres to the article without overall improving the page or citing sources is counterproductive and disruptive. It best describes the music, in my opinion. If there's any consensus on something seen as more accurate, I'm fine with that. But right now it seems we're only getting anonymous complaints that are completely unhelpful and to me, quite frankly, juvenile. "IT'S TOTALLY NOT ALTERNATIVE HIP-HOP GUYS!" doesn't mean anything. Well that's just your opinion. Instead of resolving these supposed "genre wars" you're just saying "I'm right guys so stop." When in reality the album encompasses many different genres from song to song, and the only logical (and more importantly, ACCURATE) thing to do is to list them all. Alternative Rock MUST go in there. Indie has a big presence as well. For some of the weirder songs I don't even know what to put. I think there's some genre called soul-beat or something? Anyway, this isn't a war, it's a quest for accuracy. Like I said, there's no denying hip-hop, alt rock, and indie presence on the album. If you can diagnose what some of the other genres are on weird songs feel free to contribute.
