Population of Egypt: real numbers?

Hello! I corrected the 76 million value to 74 million so it is consistent with the Egypt article; the value in that page was 68 million in the text, but 74. something in the stats on the top of the page. Somebody please correct if this 74 million value is wrong. Thanks! le_natch 23:01, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

The population number from the article is 76.4 million not 74 and the ethnicity percentage is 99.6% according to source cited(CIA fact book ) is 99.6% not 90%(you are mixing religion and ethnicity) and the way it was cited is also against Wikipedia's policies. Hamitic

Isn't Hamitic a controversial, scientifically discredited term? At least by what I can read from the corresponding page.

I agree. The term hamitic not only lacks scientific meaning, but it is mostly associated with the "scientific" justification of colonialism from the 19th century. The term hamitic only has a linguistic meaning now, and even there it is being put out of use in favor of a georgrahical sub categorization within the Afro-Asiatic family of languages. There is no such thing as a hamitic, or for that matter semitic race.--Karmish 23:31, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

About Arabs

i hope everybody don't mix between the "Arabs" and the "Arab Nationalism"

because the arabs is ethnic group came from marriage betwen Egyptian Girl "Hager" and "Abraham" From (Currenty Iraq).

But the Arab nationalism is just a culture gather various people, many ethnic groups under the arabic speaking flag , we see sudan people belong to arab nationalism however they are not arab, also people in morocco, algeria, syria and somalia . so we are Egyptians ethnic but in the political concept Arabs under the ideology of arab nationalism —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.233.43.26 (talk) 06:21, 7 April 2008 (UTC)


you might need to add that most of egyptions living in egypt now are infact descendants to persians,roman,ottomans,assyrians that invaded egypt for the last 2000 years so calling them a direct descendants of ancient egyptions is not true as most egyptions today has more genetic similarities with west asian people than ancient egyptions.

Egyptians are Egyptians?

No, technically, not all of them are Arabs. The vast majority of Coptic Egyptians are considered to be non-Arab and some of the Berbers still don't identify themselves as such. Also, saying that ALL of them are Arabs would disregard several ethnic minorities in Egypt. Even for those who call themselves "Arab" still self-identify as "Egyptian" and are not purely Arab as most of them still have some Egyptian lineage. ~ Troy (talk) 00:02, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Your question is very intriguing. In the modern time and age nations are not genetically pure and that notion nowadays brings us back to the Dark age of Nazism. In modern day and time you are a national or a member of an ethnos/nation depending on your education. For example your parents might be French but if you had a German education (life+living in Germany) and speak German fluently (mother language) then you are a German. So to answer your question no not all of them are Arabs. Some a Beduins, some are Greek. But the people you are referring to are Arabs. They speak Arabic and have an arabic education. Egypt despite the fact of being at one point a site of opposition to the Pan-Arab Ideology it was the forerunner for it. Modern Egyptian (language) is only used by Christian Churches in Egypt so in one way you could say that those people (christians) are the closest people to actual Egyptians you will get in Egypt because they atleast speak the language of their descendants. The rest, to their dismay and disagreement, are simply not Egyptians. They are Arabs. Ethnic identity is marked in the recognition from others of a group's distinctiveness, and the recognition of common cultural, linguistic, religious, behavioural traits as indicators of contrast to other groups. thus making Egyptians, most of them at least, as Arabs, and f you ask an egyptian what are you, he will answer Egyptian, and if you ask him is Egypt an arab country, he will answer yes, and if you ask him whats your language he will answer Arabic, and if you ask him whats the most important thing you care about politically, he will answer Palestine and Jerusalem, and if you ask him what are the prcedures of an egyptian wedding, he will answer the same answer you would get from a Saudi, Lebanese, Moroccan, or an Iraqi...

i personally am an Arab Egyptian, so to answer your question, their is no Such ethnicity as Egyptian, Egyptian is a Nationality, given to an Ethnic Nubian, Dom, Arab, Copt, Berber or Beja. sadly most people on Wikipedia dont know what makes an Ethnicity, yet bargain that Egyptians are Pharoas, or simply Egyptians (where being Egyptian is simply a Nationality while ethnicically the majorty f egyptians are Arabs.)

literacy numbers

Someone put 90% literacy. I'm not sure where that number comes from, but the CIA factbook lists 71.4% and other numbers I've heard are even lower. I live in Egypt, and I can certainly attest to the lack of literacy. I would enjoy a discussion if someone is committed to the 90%.--Zachbe (talk) 16:13, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Haplo group?

I looked on the demographics of the USA and there was no "haplo chart" What's this about? How would someone read that chart anyway? Is there a list of the acceptable haplo groups to be in? It's potentially interesting if we had the haplo groups of all nations; then perhaps we might find out that we are all related within the last 2300 years (1000 years for europe) (Sci News 2013). But the information is a little like fingerprint classifications. How would this information EVER be used?
