Francisco Gonzalez Valer's nationality[edit]

He was first listed as "Spanish" (where he was born and educated), then "Spanish-born American" (reflecting where he spent his clerical career), but as he returned to Spain in retirement...is it known that he surrendered his Spanish citizenship? If he were a dual national would he properly be "Spanish-American"? 71.105.190.227 (talk) 15:40, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see List of Catholic bishops in the United States#Foreign-born bishops serving in the United States. Wyliepedia @ 19:04, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where in that link is his naturalization or retention of birth citizenship status addressed in any way whatsoever?
71.105.190.227 (talk) 04:30, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see no evidence that Valer ever took American citizenship. Removing. WWGB (talk) 09:45, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Generally speaking, Catholic clergy on appointment to a foreign country don't change their nationality at all, and, it seems, very rarely take dual nationality either unless pressed to by an immigration department. Ref (chew)(do) 15:21, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Phil Lowe[edit]

@Renewal6 @Refsworldlee @Jkaharper

The user Rusted AutoParts keeps reverting my edit for Phil Lowe (March 20) which is supposed to indicate that his death was merely announced on that date.

He links to this source:

https://hullkr.co.uk/news/hull-kr-are-deeply-saddened-to-announce-one-of-our-greatest-robins-phil-lowe-has-passed-away-at

claiming that it begins by saying he dies "today". I do not see that word anywhere in the article.

The title: HULL KR ARE DEEPLY SADDENED TO ANNOUNCE ONE OF OUR GREATEST ROBINS, PHIL LOWE HAS PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 74

The opening line: Hull KR are deeply saddened to announce one of our greatest Robins, Phil Lowe has passed away at the age of 74.

Would someone either:

(1) point out where I missed "today" in that link; OR

(2) find another link which references his date of death (I can't find one); OR

(3) ask that user to back down and/or revert his removal of my "(death announced on that date)" Braintic (talk) 03:04, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because you are linking the wrong article, I linked it to you on your talk page, AND swapped it in as the citing source. Hull Club President Mike Smith: "Today, our great club and Rugby League have lost a legend. I cherish the time and memories we spent together whilst playing for Hull KR, which we shared through the good times and the bad. This created a bond which will stay with us all forever. Phil was a once in a lifetime player, and a person that l aspired to be. His success around the world of Rugby League made him an all-time great. He always gave the Robins 100%. As a player, and later as a director, he gave everything to help the club be where it is today. I am fortunate to have been a teammate, friend and to have graced the same pitch, and I will be forever grateful to have spent time with Phil. I’m sure some older supporters remember him in full flight on the field which was a sight to behold. We were all lucky to witness that. We will miss his aura around the club that only great players bring and I’m sure the Hull KR family will hold him in their hearts forever. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Avril, Andy, Katie and all of his family and friends at this sad time." Rusted AutoParts 03:16, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That wan't the article you linked to in the original reversion.
And no, that does NOT make it clear that he died on that day. Newspaper articles will OFTEN say exactly that in the morning after someone has died early the previous night. And NO other article mentions a date, which strongly suggests that this date was not released. Braintic (talk) 05:13, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how much clearer you can be about the day someone died than saying "today". The most reliable Hull KR official website source identifies the day absolutely clearly for me, thank you. And backing down always goes in two directions. Ref (chew)(do) 07:49, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I have no idea why you decided to ping just three editors out of the tens who regularly work on this page. Kindly open your complaints to an anonymous and general wide audience rather than doing that. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 07:52, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea who the regular editors are. You are searching for a complaint.
It does not say he died "today", so it is not clear. And what is THEIR source, given that the date is not given ANYWHERE else? Braintic (talk) 08:12, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to know who the regular editors are, so please don't ping individuals unless they have been previously involved in your complaint (which is what this whole section is by you). I have already said I don't appreciate being targeted for no reason. Read the source yet again. The chairman of Hull KR is clearly quoted as saying "Today, our great club and Rugby League have lost a legend." The only way you can be more specific than that is to quote the actual date of "today". Ref (chew)(do) 09:25, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like this has already been resolved, but I'm going to use this opportunity to say that if you're changing information, particularly swapping others peoples' sources for new ones, then use the edit summary when doing so. A lot of these misunderstandings come about because subsequent edits are made and not given any context. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 08:42, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It absolutely was the source I linked in my initial edit summary. Rusted AutoParts 14:20, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Louis Gossett Jr.[edit]

So I'm thinking of how to implement his title as the first Black actor to win best Supporting at the Oscars. I'm not sure how to phrase it exactly, I was hoping someone could phrase it better to fit the list, as it seems i failed twice to express it. Bruh32123 (talk) 13:52, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If deemed appropriate for inclusion in a simple entry in a deaths list. That needs to be considered from the outset. Ref (chew)(do) 15:26, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It’s a major achievement, just I don’t believe it’s necessary here for his death entry. It’s more appropriate for his article or the awards article where it has a lot of room to expound on its significance, as opposed to trying to squish it in here and either be too long an entry or fails to properly highlight the achievement. Rusted AutoParts 16:19, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We typically don't list "firsts" here. Wyliepedia @ 19:18, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Holocaust survivor[edit]

A couple days ago, I saw that a holocaust survivor had passed. She had been interned in the gypsy camps. i don't remember her name and now I can't find any mention of her. I would like to know why she was removed. TY Bigfoot143 (talk) 12:50, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely more information needed here - we can't play guessing games on that. Ref (chew)(do) 14:53, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All appears correct after research - we still have Nesse Godin (8th March), Ervín Adam (21st March) and Elisabeth Guttenberger (25th March). I can't see that anyone else Holocaust-related has been removed. Ref (chew)(do) 15:16, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was Elisabeth Guttenberger (I recognize the name now seeing it) but she still doesn't show up on the April/March list. Bigfoot143 (talk) 11:50, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess my confusion is that she appeared in the "topics in the news" at the top of the current events portal which is what piqued my interest, but is not now listed in the "recent deaths" section of the current events portal. I did just now find her on the "2024 all deaths" page. Bigfoot143 (talk) 12:05, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Connecting up "recent deaths" in the current events and the "Deaths in year" pages is never straightforward, as they are compiled by different sets of editors usually. No problems. Ref (chew)(do) 13:21, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
