Belle du Berry[edit]

Hello. Belle du Berry entry is sorted under "du" key, but her pseudo isn't "Du Berry, Belle" nor "Berry, Belle du", but "Belle du Berry" as indicated by her Bibliothèque nationale de France authority. And if Le Monde ref is a bit ambiguous, all others death related sources say she was 54 years old. Thanks. Regards, Xavier 86.218.137.124 (talk) 15:40, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If the article edit source contained a DEFAULTSORT (which it currently does not), I feel sure it would indicate "du Berry, Belle" - but that's just opinion. I don't feel knowledgable enough on this point to alphamove her - but I have changed her age in the listing to 54 per the translation of the source being used. Her own article still shows "53–54" though. Ref (chew)(do) 17:25, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, but BnF is considered as a "strong source" (source forte ?) for French WP. You can see that Ascap says "BELLE DU BERRY", when others songwriters are listed under the form of "NAME SURNAME(S)" even if it is a pseudonym. And I've just put a DEFAULTSORT/CLEDETRI in her French article, wait and see whether it is changed or not. Anyway, thanks for the age correction. Regards, Xavier 86.218.137.124 (talk) 19:33, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Someone (not me) has now inserted a DEFAULTSORT into her English article as your first example "Du Berry, Belle", though I did correct their typo (Barry→Berry). I think it will probably have to stay alpha Du in the English Deaths page, at least for now. Ref (chew)(do) 12:24, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that. No worry, this isn't a big problem. Regards, Xavier 86.218.137.124 (talk) 13:55, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gordon J. Brand[edit]

The cause of death of Gordon J. Brand was a sudden illness, according to that page. -Cupper52 (talk) 19:19, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COD needs to be more specific. Thinks like sudden illness or natural causes are too vague and can mean many things. Rusted AutoParts 19:20, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ash Christian[edit]

Should something else be added to the things he was known for besides The Good Wife? Maybe The Good Fight and Cleaners. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 11:20, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd personally say that "The Good Wife" was about as notable as he got in acting. His main focus became behind the camera in filmmaking and production. I notice you have been making the odd page edit lately - if you feel strongly about adding more acting credits, you always can (max 3). The worst that can happen is that you get reverted, as long as you do the formatting correctly. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 21:25, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 10:01, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Eric Hughes (What's in a name?)[edit]

In the past few days, two cases of namesake mistaken identities (which is unusual, thank goodness) have been changed to red links. One was subsequently fixed, but the other i.e. Eric Hughes (August 13) wasn't unfortunately. There are TWO English rugby league players named Eric Hughes and both played for Widnes and St Helens, confusingly. They are also similar ages, but not the same (the deceased was 73 and the other 69) but that's where the similarities end. One is a back who played international football and is notable, as per his article. The other is a forward who seems to have only played club football and probably isn't notable, although a red link might be justified for up to 30 days. The lifespan of the notable Eric Hughes with an article has been changed to the other, but most of the article appears the same. Editrite! (talk) 09:48, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

More discussion about the mix-up here [1]. WWGB (talk) 11:17, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Walter Lure[edit]

Can he be added to the 21st? He died from liver and lung cancer.[2] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 01:21, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

His name redirects to The Heartbreakers, which means he has not demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band. On that basis, he does not warrant inclusion here. WWGB (talk) 01:47, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That call is made 30 days hence, as redirects are a quick and lazy device, and do not indicate either notability or a lack of it. Someone else has added him regardless. Ref (chew)(do) 07:07, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Deletion does not always need to wait one month. Lure could not get an article after living 71 years; death alone should not convey notability, although Robert Trump disproved that. I'm not about to dispute the entry (for now), just content that I did not add it. WWGB (talk) 07:28, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I’m confused, what did you mean by that comment about Robert Trump? - Chris.sherlock (talk) 07:36, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris.sherlock: He means that Trump wasn't notable until he died. Wyliepedia @ 08:19, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not sure I would agree! But each to their own :-) I would like to point out he has had an article since 2017... - Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:21, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong (again). Robert Trump was a redirect (not an article) from 8 April 2017 to 16 August 2020. WWGB (talk) 11:59, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Weirdest AFD ever. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Robert Trump. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 13:06, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
He probably is independently notable, and creating an article about him has been on my "to do" list for a very long time. Hopefully, with reliable obituaries now likely to be published, someone will be able to start his article. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:42, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Now this article is saying that he died on the 22nd and not the 21st:[3]. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 09:03, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That article cites a nightclub's Facebook post. Wyliepedia @ 10:04, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think that’s a reliable source though. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 11:04, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Then why did you post it? WWGB (talk) 11:08, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, no need to be so... abrupt. We’re all friends here. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 11:18, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My stalker emerges yet again. How ..... typical! WWGB (talk) 11:22, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what you are talking about. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 11:23, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey guys, so what is the outcome here... did he die or not? What was the decision? For some reason this was archived rather quickly, something I've noticed happens from time to time. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 11:29, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I posted it because there was a different day of death. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 11:53, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris.sherlock: The question was not "did he die?" - it was "is he notable?", to which I still say "suck it and see" for 30 days. Even dubious redlinks seem to get that concession in the modern Wikipedia. And this is still a current August 2020 Talk page thread, so not archived (if it had stayed simple, it might have been deleted as done, resolved, answered or whatever - but probably not now). Whadda brouhaha. Ref (chew)(do) 12:42, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn’t clear to me that was the outcome :-) - Chris.sherlock (talk) 13:00, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I found another article that also says the 22nd. [4] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 14:56, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It also quotes the same Facebook post I mentioned at 10:00 yesterday morning. Wyliepedia @ 00:48, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gail Sheehy and COVID-19[edit]

A lot of articles including Variety are quoting a Facebook post from her daughter Maura saying “In a terrible swift unexpected spin of the wheel, my mother died this afternoon, of a raging pneumonia, possibly Covid, that came on wildly after a lovely evening with her partner, Robert, and friends.”

Is this a reliable source for a cause of death or should it just be left as complications from pneumonia? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 19:11, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The clue is in the word "possibly". If her daughter is using that word and speculating, then the whole world will be. Pneumonia is the furthest we should go at the present time. Ref (chew)(do) 21:06, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Riley Gale[edit]

The article that is sourced says he was 34 when he passed away.[5] However, this says he was 35.[6] Which is the right source of information? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 10:47, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to have been born in May 1985, so likely 35. WWGB (talk) 11:15, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Having done a deep Google search, I have to say that obituaries (and there are many) seem evenly split between 34 and 35, so I've changed the entry accordingly. Ref (chew)(do) 12:42, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Point of interest only - the Encyclopaedia Metallum [7] states for him a birthdate of May 1st, 1985, which would make him 35. But that source is not reliable. Ref (chew)(do) 18:36, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Ruby[edit]

Here is a better source that can be used for him. [8] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 21:22, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Legacy is never a bad source - it's proved very reliable. Ref (chew)(do) 21:53, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Leslie Hamilton Freas[edit]

Leslie Hamilton Freas has died, age 63. Twin sister to Linda Hamilton, and served as her stand in and stunt double for Terminator 2: Judgement Day. [9] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.98.176.46 (talk) 12:24, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not seeing any notability here, either as a stand in or as a sister. WWGB (talk) 12:54, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That one credit should mean not added. One person, even if identical, is not another person. Ref (chew)(do) 14:06, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don Parkinson and Ric Drasin[edit]

[10] [11] Don's article says Parkinson’s Disease, and Ric's says kidney issues for causes of death. Can these be updated to mention this? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 09:13, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Parkinson: any cause of death has been removed from his article, so we should hang fire (source says "a long illness");
  • Drasin: again, any cause is not now included, and "kidney issues" in the source is not specific enough.
Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 12:45, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Someone just added AIDS to Don Parkinson’s article. Can this be removed? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 19:29, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't the place for mainspace discussion. Wyliepedia @ 20:50, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
On this occasion, I disagree. A valid flagging up of vandalism within a relevant talk section should never be batted down like that. Thankfully someone has twice reverted the misinformation introduced there. Ref (chew)(do) 23:14, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Clifford Robinson[edit]

He is first and foremost a UConn Huskies men's basketball player. With the high profile around the basketball programs at this school, that reference should be present in his blurb. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:182:4381:E60:D1A8:4537:DD17:83AB (talk) 03:19, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's about the man, not the college. In notability levels, NBA trumps College basketball, and also by the Rule of Three he's only allowed three credits in line (currently Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns playing, and Survivor: Cagayan in reality TV). So I won't be adding it, and I don't think it should replace any of those either. Ref (chew)(do) 05:37, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pietro Mário COD[edit]

According to Globo, he had a cardiovascular arrest, according to friends. Pietro was admitted to the hospital with Covid-19, but was cured of the virus. Subsequent complications worsened his condition and he did not resist. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 09:50, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COVID-19 is not that simple. Sufferers can be cured of the virus but, in the meantime, terrible damage may have been done to lung functions and other associated actions and organs. A following condition caused directly by having been infected with COVID-19 should be quoted as "complications of COVID-19"; however, you seem to be suggesting that the "cardiovascular arrest" caused his death as a totally unconnected issue (actually, the correct term "cardiac arrest" gets lost in the Portuguese-English translation). The truth of his CoD has yet to emerge, I think, and I'd 'suck it and see'. Ref (chew)(do) 13:25, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Barbara Judge[edit]

[12] According to that article, she passed away on August 31st. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 13:55, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you have a subscription to the Financial Times, because I don't so I can't agree or disagree with your information there - however, two other reliable sources (one very) also state "died Monday". Her own article may take time to catch up with this. Ref (chew)(do) 21:13, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hallelujah. I went in and updated the date of death in her article, and no-one (as yet) has seen fit to revert it. Ref (chew)(do) 23:18, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
