Name[edit]

I moved it from Dziekana Palace (Dziekan=Rector). In English, it would be Rector's Palace. Polish a is unecesary if we do a partial translation. Thoughts? Ping User:Nihil novi, User:Poeticbent. --_{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 08:33, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've copyedited the article, adding some details from the Polish Wikipedia.

Please note that, after its burning, the structure was rebuilt for "Dziekan [Dean] J. Raciborski."

It was a deanery, as defined in Wikipedia:

A deanery (or decanate [the Latin-derived cognate of the Polish word dziekanat]) is an ecclesiastical entity in the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of England, the Evangelical Church in Germany, and the Church of Norway. A deanery is either the jurisdiction or residence of a dean.

(Thus, Jonathan Swift is otherwise known as "Dean Swift".)

The word "dean" is commonly applied in certain academic and in certain ecclesiastical contexts.

A dean is "the presiding official of a cathedral [e.g., St. John's Cathedral, Warsaw] or collegiate church." A deanery is "the official residence of a dean."

(A rector, in the Roman Catholic Church, is "the head priest of a parish.")

Accordingly, I propose that Warsaw's Pałac Dziekana, in the English Wikipedia, be rendered as "Deanery of St. John's Cathedral, Warsaw".

"Ulica Dziekania" would be "Deanery Street" in English.
