Indianapolis Colts?[edit]

It seems to me, though not recognized by the NFL and in a convoluted manner, this is now the team known as the Indianapolis Colts. When the Triangles became the Brooklyn Dodgers, officially the franchise was considered folded, but the argument could be made that the franchise survived. In 1945, the football Dodgers were moved to Boston, where they became the Boston Yanks. A proposed agreement with the AAFC would have had this team playing in New York as the New York Yanks in 1949, but this was rejected by the AAFC. However, the Yanks played in New York anyway in 1949, and merged with the Brooklyn Dodgers of the AAFC (formed soon after the NFL Dodgers moved to Boston).

In 1952, this team played as the original Dallas Texans (NFL), after the Boston-New York-Brooklyn franchise went bankrupt and was absorbed by the league. This would have been done in similar manner to baseball's Montreal Expos' move to Washington via San Juan, as facilitated by Major League Baseball. The Texans were then assigned to Baltimore, where they became the pre-1984 Baltimore Colts. Of course, this is essentially original research (even though it can be justified through a number of sources), so the article itself shouldn't be edited in this manner. Still, it makes for an interesting footnote here in the talk section. -- SwissCelt 06:21, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As a noted addendum: the 1952 season was spent partially in Hershey, PA as part of the league move. This is a fair assesment of the link between the Dayton Triangles and the Indianapolis Colts. It is not a "legal" link as the charter starts and stops several times from begining to end. It is, however, a "realistic" link. The actual link is the equipment. It was the actual football equipment (helmets, uniforms, padding) that was actually moved from point-to-point. The team colors of blue on white stayed the same through each "team" along the link. Begining with the Dayton Triangles in 1920 to present day Indianapolis Colts and including every team along the way, from the Yanks/Yankees the Dodgers, the Bulldogs, the Texans and the Colts all wore the same colors... blue on white.

While not recognized by the NFL as such -- they see this team as ending with the Brooklyn Dodgers football team -- it is very arguable, given franchise mergers and the like, that this team is really the current Indianapolis Colts -- it is in my mind. But that sort of thing belongs over here and not in the article, if for no other reason than the fact that "official" NFL version controls and it is supportable by logical argument. Either way, it's a long ways from Washington Senators I= Minnesota Twins, Washington Senators II= Texas Rangers; Montreal Expos=Washington Nationals 75.201.206.210 (talk) 21:09, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
