Dubai and Qatar tournament status[edit]

Since Dubai and Qatar switch off yearly as far as being a Premier 5 event (for the last several years), usually I see only one row in newer player performance timelines. Older timelines often have several rows to accommodate changes such as the Pan Pacific being demoted in favor of the Wuhan tournament. In that respect these timelines are flexible as to editor preference in what works best for our readers. Either way is fine for me... I guess I like the blended version better in this case but it's personal preference. It's nice to see only 5 events in the Premier 5 category, and her career is listed from 2016 when the alternating started taking place. Talk it out here as to what you all think is better for our readers.

My only problem in getting involved was making sure lesser events didn't fill up the timeline, as that would be against the consensus guideline. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

Early life and background[edit]

  • "Dayana Yastremska was born on 15 May 2000 to Marina and Alexander Yastremsky in Odessa, the third-largest city in Ukraine" - The WTA Tennis biography source in the infobox can be used to verify Yastremska's birth date and birth place
  • "Her father had been a volleyball player and also has served on the Odessa City Council." - the text in bold can be removed
    • I included it because I'm sure he is no longer a volleyball player, but not certain whether he still serves on the council (hence the "has" instead of "had"). Sportsfan77777 (talk) 21:43, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "After also trying other sports such as gymnastics and swimming," - "also" is unneeded
  • "She entered her first tournament when she was seven and finished in third place, despite the tournament" - close repetition of "tournament"

Junior career[edit]

  • A thought: perhaps state what the exact names of the Grade tournaments were or where they took place?
    • Added the countries for the higher-level events. Names wouldn't be so recognizable at this level. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 21:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Yastremska closed out her junior career" - concluded

2015–17: Five ITF titles, first WTA match win[edit]

2018: Maiden WTA title and top 100 debut at 18[edit]

  • "After injuring her ankle at the Abierto Mexicano in February," - not mentioned by the ITF source. Please find a reference that explicitly states this fact
  • "and lost in qualifying at Wimbledon." - should be either in the qualifying stages or in the qualifying tournament

2019: Two WTA titles, world No. 22[edit]

  • "however, she began to struggle and only won one match" - won a single match
    • Changed to "only tallied one match win". ("single match" creates confusion with "singles match") Sportsfan77777 (talk) 21:56, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "six tournaments in part due to playing through an ankle injury.[27][2]" - refs should be in numerical order
  • "After a quarterfinal at the Hobart International,"- quarterfinal appearance
  • "a quarterfinal at the Wuhan Open." - reached the quarterfinal
    • I think the usage of the comma with that part of the sentence is correct. ("her best Premier 5 result of the year, a quarterfinal at the Wuhan Open") Sportsfan77777 (talk) 21:56, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "She partner with Jeļena Ostapenko at the Premier Mandatory China Open" - typo; should be partnered

2020: First Premier final[edit]

  • "During the event, she defeated three top 20 players, including No. 12 Aryna Sabalenka," - not mentioned by Tennis.com so another source is needed to verify this portion of information

National representation[edit]

  • "Ukraine lost the tie after losing the first singles rubber" - repetition of lost/losing
  • "the latter of which in a third-set tiebreak." - which was in

Playing style[edit]

  • "and can hit large numbers of winners." - a vast amount of winners.
    • Changed to "high". ("Numbers" is plural because it refers to hitting a high number of winners in multiple matches.) Sportsfan77777 (talk) 22:03, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Yastremska was regarded as the most aggressive player on the WTA Tour," - regarded by whom?
  • "having led the tour with 28.6% of her shots ending in a winner," - the symbol should be replaced with the word percent per MOS:PERCENT

Coaches[edit]

  • "she has trained in Istanbul with Gavin Hopper" - the text in bold should be written in the past tense
  • You don't need to have Sascha Bajin linked since he is already linked in the previous section

References[edit]

  • References 4, 22, 24, 25 are missing the authors who wrote the respective articles
  • Reference 44 should include the date it was published and the Associated Press as the agency who provided the story
  • References 3, 17, 50 are missing the dates they were published
  • Reference 52 does not have the date the article was published and the person who authored it

Overall the primary issues that I found during my read-through of the article concern the prose, the verification of some material that is not covered by the sources and the lack of parameters in certain references. On hold. MWright96 (talk) 21:31, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review, MWright96! I addressed all of the comments above. I agreed with most of them, and made some notes on the rest. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 22:44, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2020 Fed Cup[edit]

current revision says: "Ukraine played their Fed Cup Group I tournament in Estonia, where Yastremska was victorious in all three of her singles matches." Maybe I am missing something, but I only see two matches in the article 2020 Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group I – Pool A (Tallinn). --Kompik (talk) 09:50, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
