My help to expand[edit]

Dear Sir, I would like to help; I would like to point out that I cit. the German Wikipedia.

After winning a giant slalom in a so-called "FIS-Race" (a race which is organized by the FIS - but it is to classify as a race in a scale of a "Third League") at Åre in 1968, he was elected into the skiing team of the Austrian Ski Federation. As early as his first competing in a World Cup race he finished ninth in the giant slalom at Adelboden on January 6th, 1969. In the season 1969-70 he could gain places in the "Top Ten" in all disciplines but in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships at Val Gardena (when he was only nominated for the giant slalom) he had to be content with place 13. - His first podest he did catch on January 5th, 1970, in the giant slalom at Berchtesgaden, his first victory followed on March 13th in the giant slalom in occasion of the season final races at Åre. He was the best male racer of the Austrian team in that season by achieving seventh in the Overall World Cup and as 5th in the giant slalom and 8th in the "special slalom" World Cup. - In the following season he failed to find the former shape, he could only gain one result in the top ten (seventh in the giant slalom on January 10th, 1972, at Berchtesgaden, therefore it wasn't a great surprise that he couldn't capture any excellent places in the Winter Olympics 1972 at Sapporo (he finished 7th as well in the giant slalom as "special slalom"). The only one podest, a third place in a giant slalom, did happen on March 2nd, at Heavenly Valley. He could do better in the season 1972/73, and it was a surprise that he could show a good performance in the downhill races. With a bib number behind 30 he gained the 2nd place on December 10th, at Val d'Isère, and also with such a high number (it was 35) he became 3rd in the downhill at Val Gardena on December 15th. Another win did happen four days later in the giant slalom at Madonna di Campiglio. Top ten places did nearly continuously drop in.

He became an Austrian Champion in the giant slalom and in the Alpine Combined in the season 1970-71, and he was able to defend the title in the giant slalom in the next season.

He was able to achieve a lot of places in the top ten from the begin of the season 1973/74 but he was no one who was a hot favourite in regard to the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships at St. Moritz (maybe in the Alpine Combined because being a racer to make good results in all disciplines). But things never turn out the way you expect: Being disqualified in the first event, the giant slalom (he did finish 5th, but he had straddled a gate), a medal did recede into the distance. The downhill race had do been postponed (a week later) due a strong snow fall but there were other racers to catch the medals, above all the red-hot favourite Roland Collombin from Switzerland, his team-mate [[Bernhard Russi], Zwillings's team-mate Franz Klammer or one of the strong Italians. The Austrian Ski Federation did schedule a qualifying race for the downhill event, and Zwilling did win – and he did catch the gold medal (having a margin of 1.03 sec. to Klammer). Being in a flash of victory he did accomplish the silver medal in the slalom event which was carried out one day after the downhill. Injured with a ligament strain after a fall in Val d'Isère in December 1975, he announced his retirement.

Zwilling is married und has two children. He did become an incorporator and head of several concerns. In 1999, he was awarded with the »Goldenes Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich« (»Order of merit in gold for services rendered to the Republic of Austria«).
